    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The day generally revolved around various 'focus on' sessions about the various Sectors the firm focuses. These sessions included a 25 minute discussion of the Sector followed by a Q&A. There were also numerous 'carousel' sessions where we spent 15 minutes discussing a practice area, followed by a 5 minute Q&A. Lastly, we had a number of assessed tasks to complete as well as sessions on D&I, tech and the values of the firm.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I developed various of my skills including: - Communication - Teamwork - Time management - Legal research - Legal writing I also learned various skills throughout the course of the scheme, including understanding how to address diversity and inclusion in the workplace and the ways that tech can streamline legal services. Lastly, through various catch ups arranged outside of the timetable, I learned a lot from the experts at Taylor Wessing who were very generous with their time and were keen to share their industry knowledge with me.

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture is what makes Taylor Wessing special. The firm is filled with creative, curious and inclusive people. Employees are encouraged to be true to themselves and learn from each other's experiences. This is exemplified by the recent reverse mentoring scheme which has encouraged a discourse about race and ethnicity within the firm and which I am sure will lead to tangible changes.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Taylor Wessing
  • Be true to yourself. The entire process is a way for the firm to determine whether you are a good fit for the firm and for you to find out if the firm is a good fit for you. If you hide who you are, you are missing the point of the scheme and won't enjoy it as much. Be creative and inquisitive, its the best way to learn about the firm and its people. Organise lots of meetings to discuss topics which are interesting to you. Make sure you have prepared meaningful questions. Think commercially about future problems and how lawyers might add value outside of legal expertise.
