    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • On a daily basis I work and are responsible for a number of different aspects involved in a QS role ( Payment application, forecasts, CE'S, EW and risk). Communicating daily with other members of the project team and other stakeholders that are involved with the projects that I am working on.

  • Through out my placement I have been on a number of training courses, which have improved my skills in time management, health & safety, Excel and other outlook office programs. I have also developed and improved my skills in communication and negotiation. Through out my placement I have improved the skills required of me to undertake my work to a good standard .

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Through out my placement year my responsibly on task has grown and I now take full responsibility for a number of different payment applications and forecast as well as being involved in creating a training pack on the NEC contract for other people within the company.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Throughout the placement I have been given lots of support from my line manager and other members of my team supporting me on the tasks I have been given. I have also been assigned a buddy who has supported me throughout in a number of different aspects (work related, development related). I have also received a lot of support from the people involved in the placement process as well.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Due to Covid I have mostly been working from home, however the company have organised a number of virtual/social events and I have also been able to get involved with some charity work as well. I have found the atmosphere and culture to be really good and everyone has made me fell welcome and comfortable.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my placement, the team I have worked with have made me feel welcome and given me work that is challenging me. My placement has meet all my expectations and more which is great and I have just accepted a fulltime job within the company.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to National Grid
  • I would advise any one looking to join National Grid to go for it! The application process is quite intense and you need to make sure you have looked into the company's values and to understand how they a line with you. I was inspired to join National Grid due to the range and significance the projects I would be involved in, making a positive outcome for the whole country.
