    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I enjoyed the virtual Open Day very much. It was well organised with a great mix of partner presentations, trainee Q&A and application tips from the graduate recruitment team. The business game was a great addition and allowed us to work as a group rather than against eachother. Team work was definitely encouraged and it has made the expeirence more relaxed. I particularly enjoyed the Senior Partner presentation and the opportunity to ask questions at the end.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I think the graduate recruitment team, partners and trainees really made an effort to ensure attendees can ask plenty of questions, which made me feel valued as an individual rather than just a face in a sea of screens. Even at the end of the day, when there will still many questions left, the team offered that we could send questions via email. Which I have done and they have responded the same day. I've not seen many other grad teams put this much care into the recruitment process.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • It was well organised - from comprehensive joining instructions to support throughout the day. I personally did not experience any difficulties during the Open Day, however a few other attendees either struggled to join or using 'Teams'. The recruitment team was very helpful and friendly during those moments, ensuring everyone could join and listen. Simultaneously they did not interrupt the presentation, but had people at hand who could help via the chat or separate calls. I thought it was well managed.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The insight provided during the day will be very helpful during the application process and vacation scheme. I felt that the presenters have shared a lot of information with us that could give attendees just a slight edge during the application phase as we know what to expect and even did a little commercial exercise that is very similar o what will happen during the assessment day. It also helps to understand what is expected during the vacation scheme and how crucial it is for securing a training contract.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • Very well structured. The agenda was shared at the beginning of the day allowing attendees to prepare for each section. The mix of activites also had the right balance: a graduate team presentation, commercial game, Trainee Q&A, graduate partner presentation and senior partner presentation with Q&A, and of course a short break. The grad team member guided the presentations and Q&A session well so there was never an awkward moment where people talked over each other.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • The general atmosphere during the day was very friendly, relaxed yet professional. I felt the team at Taylor Wessing made a real effore to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome. They encouraged all attendees to ask questions and engage with partners and trainees throughout the day.All attendees were very friendly as well and there was no competitiveness or disrespectful behaviour. A testament to the types of candidates Taylor Wessing attracts for its vacaction scheme and training contracts.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This questions does not apply to feedback for an open day.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think the Q&A session with the Trainees was most helpful for that as they gave a good amount of detail on what their daily tasks included and what it is like to work directly with partners and associates. The presentation of the presentation by the graduare recruitment partner was a great addition to that. He provided a lot of insight into what to expect from the vacation scheme and how seats for training contracts are allocated.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • More than I thought it would. The dynamic between trainees, partners and the recruitment team was very friendly, relaxed and jovial. The partners seemed approachable and not afraid to crack a joke. Everyone came across as a nice person that would be fun to work with, while still effortlessly showing a level of experience and expertise that highlighted they are very capable in what they do. If this day is reflective of the company culture then I look forward to (hopefully) working for Taylor Wessing.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very valuable. As a career changer making the switch to law after already having started a successful career is very daunting. It's also very difficult to decide which law firm is right and 'worth' the change. The virtual open day coupled with the information availble on the website and social media has affirmed however, that Taylor Wessing is a great firm to work for and that a career in law will be fullfilling and rewarding.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • No reimbursement necessary as this was a virtual day.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We had a Q&A session with the trainees and were able to ask questions to one of the senior partners - those two probably came closest a networking event. It's very difficult to replace a more traditional open day online, but I think the team at Taylor Wessing really tried to make it as interactive and insightful as possible. I think perhaps more time for questions would have been good, or perhaps small breakout rooms with some of the partners, but it's also important to acknowledge that everyone still has to do their busy jobs, so I think it was well organised.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Well organised, but maybe a little short given the amount of attendees.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • No the day was very much focused on life at Taylor Wessing and the extra acitivites they offer that go beyond work. From different Diversity and Inclusion groups, to sustainability initiatives and pro bono work, the firm offers a variety of ways to get involved.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • Yes definitely. It has been really useful and insightful and I think it's the best way of getting to know a firm prior to applying short of knowing someone working there. The graduate recruitment team as been friendly and helpful throughout and after the day and I nevel felt discouraged from asking questions. I think all presenters made a great effort to try and bring the firm closer, and I now feel really motivated to apply.
