About You
The Open Day was really great! The sessions were all really well planned and the team did an amazing job of organising a virtual event and giving a really interesting insight into Taylor Wessing. The mixture of sessions and the opportunity to interact with different members of the firm was really good and kept me really engaged. It was just the right length too ad provided a good amount of information in that time frame. I would definitely recommend attending an open day if you could.
The graduate recruitment team and all the lawyers we interacted with with extremely welcoming and gave a really genuine insight into the firm. Every Taylor wessing employee we interacted with was happy to answer any questions we had and were more than willing to answer any further questions we might of had after the day as well. As the trainees had gone through this process they were really helpful in providing relevant advice and tips.
The application hints session was extremely useful in helping us tailor our applications specifically to Taylor Wessing. The in-depth session on the application process broke down each section and made me feel more comfortable about what was to be expected of me at each stage of the process. Also the graduate recruitment team were happy to answer any questions we had and the whole event made me feel very supported in any future applications I intend to make.
The skills developed in this session, particularly the commercial awareness group exercise, will definitely help me in the future with any future studies or applications as it really made you think outside the box and put yourself in the footsteps of a business advisor. The ability to work in a team and with people I had not met before was really worthwhile and help to enhance my communication and teamwork skills, as well as given me the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of individuals.
The Company
The whole event was extremely well structured and gave us the perfect amount of information to get a really useful insight into Taylor Wessing. The mix of individuals we spoke to during the day helped get a broad understanding of the firm and what our career could look like should we be successful in the application process. The event gave the right level of interaction, presentations and group activity, whilst keeping it very understandable for those who do not have a lot of legal knowledge yet.
The atmosphere of the event was really positive and extremely welcoming. From the moment we logged onto the event I felt very relaxed and any nerves I had originally had eased with the friendly nature of the graduate recruitment team. The team was really supportive during the event and if there was any technical issues these were handled with really positively. The atmosphere really gave a good impression of the firm and made it feel like a very friendly place to work.
In terms of training and development Taylor Wessing was really good at helping us to create a well-rounded and thoughtful application. In addition, the commercial awareness group exercise, followed by the senior partner presentation, really enhanced my understanding of commercial awareness and how to best show this in both my research of the firm and through interviews and assessment centres, go above the useful definition of what commercial awareness is and how this actually fits into the larger picture of being a lawyer.
The event was really useful in helping me understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company. The timeline presented clearly showed the path we would follow prior to starting the training contract at Taylor Wessing and then the structure of the training contract itself. The interaction with the current trainees was really helpful in understanding what tasks we could be given when at that level and what professional opportunities they are able to get involved with.
The open day really helped in understanding the company culture as the values of the firm shone through in every interaction we had. It was a very welcoming and warm event and made me feel that this would be a firm that would really invest in me professionally and personally should I be successful in the application process. Also the information provided on the diversity networks of the firm really emphasised the importance the firm places on D&I.
The content provided during the open day was very valuable in helping me decide on my future career path. It has really strengthened my drive to be a commercial lawyer and has given me an insight into different areas of law that I had perhaps not given too much thought to. The event was good at highlighting the key attributes that would be useful in this career path and how I could implement certain qualities I have to become a successful applicant.
Everything Else
Was not required.
Given that this event was virtual it obviously was not going to be as possible to meet as many people should the event have been in person. However, with that said the graduate recruitment team did an amazing job of giving us the opportunity to meet and network with a range of people from across the firm, such as trainees and senior partners. If the event was slightly longer perhaps we could have had another networking session, however given the current situation I can understand how this is not particularly easy at the moment.
We had the opportunity to learn about the pro-bono activities that trainees and associates can get involved with, such as helping those who are currently homeless and in need of housing advice. Also we learnt about the different diversity networks and the events that they hold across the firm.
I would definitely recommend this experience to a friend, or anyone for that matter interested in a career in commercial law. The event really showed how Taylor Wessing is different from other firms and what a career at the firm could look like. I think this event is really good for those who do not know what area of commercial law they are interested in yet as it gave a real insight into the firms specialities such as life sciences and technology.
