    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I really enjoyed the virtual experience and found it an extremely helpful insight into both what the culture at the firm is like and what the trainees are involved with. The opportunity to learn more about the application process was very valuable and I particularly enjoyed the chance to get involved in a group activity similar to what you might expect at an assessment day. Some online events can have attendees just sitting and listening without the chance to get actively involved so I really enjoyed this event, I just wish we’d had slightly longer for that activity!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I did really get the impression from this experience that the firm is a really great place to be a trainee, with a strong support network available and the chance to get involved in real work from the offset. Obviously this experience was only an insight to life at the firm but I did feel like my engagement with the open day activities and asking questions was appreciated and that they wanted us to be able to get the most out of the day as possible.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • The amount of information that I was given during the virtual open day was extremely extensive and I think that all of this will be extremely helpful in supporting my application to the firm. I really got the impression that Taylor Wessing is a firm that cares a lot about its employees and particularly the trainees that it takes on. All the instructions and support available from current trainees during the activities on the day were clear and very helpful.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have already graduated so this virtual open day experience was not as related to my degree studies, but in terms of the skills that I developed and the information provided about the application process, it was an invaluable experience. I feel much more confident going on to apply for schemes at Taylor Wessing, but also the application tips and insight will be extremely useful for other applications I do in the future as well.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The virtual open day was extremely well structured and all of the parts of the day ran to time but still provided me with plenty of information. It covered all of the areas that I felt I wanted insight into and also broke up the sessions with interactive activities. The only thing I would improve would just be that I wanted some of the activities to run for slightly longer, or to allow for more time for questions.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • The atmosphere overall was really good, I really got the impression that the firm is a friendly place to work and everyone we had the chance to meet and speak to was really nice. The group activity part way through the morning was a really great opportunity to interact with and speak to some of the other students and graduates attending the day and even though the task we were doing had some similarities to an assessment day task, the atmosphere was quite relaxed.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As this was only a virtual insight open day there wasn’t much opportunity for the firm to invest in my development. Although the information it provided made it clear that it wanted applicants to get the most out of the experience and I feel like attending this virtual open day has given me an advantage when applying to this firm later on.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • This experience was extremely valuable as an insight into what a full time career with Taylor Wessing would be like. Not only did we get to speak to current trainees about their experiences with the firm, but we also heard from partners who had been with the firm for most of their careers. Both of these opportunities gave me a real sense of the range of work that lawyers and trainees get involved with at the firm.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • This virtual experience was extremely helpful in understanding the culture at the firm. Insights from speaking to both current trainees about their experiences with the firm and also hearing from partners who had been with the firm for most of their careers were very valuable in learning about the firm’s culture. Both of these opportunities and just the general interactions with those running the insight day really highlighted what the culture of the firm is like.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of this virtual experience was extremely helpful in guiding my career decisions. Not only did it confirm for me that a career in law is something that I want to pursue, it also highlighted to me how Taylor Wessing would be a good fit for me. Not only this but it highlighted the aspects of a firm that I am looking for when applying for vacation schemes and training contracts in the future.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • This was a virtual open day experience which I conducted from home online so no reimbursement was required.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • With every section of activity carried out through the day came the opportunity to meet and hear from both partners and current trainees in the firm. Obviously being a virtual event we didn’t get to meet anyone, but in most cases we did get the opportunity to engage with them through asking questions. The only reason this hasn’t got 10 stars is that I would have preferred to have slightly longer to ask questions in some instances.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Obviously being a virtual event, networking opportunities were more difficult than they would be in person, particularly when working to a time frame which limits the number of questions that can be asked. Having said that I do think that a lot of effort was made by Taylor Wessing to make the experience as interactive as possible and really encouraged asking questions and interacting with the current trainees, partners and other students/graduates attending the open day.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • When speaking to the current trainees we found out more about some of the extra activities that employees can be involved with outside of their day to day work. This topic only came about as someone asked a question about it and wasn’t necessarily information that would have been volunteered otherwise. Overall the day was very informative about all areas of life as an employee at Taylor Wessing but I wouldn’t say there was lots of opportunity to find out about activities outside of work.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • I would strongly recommend anyone who is considering applying to Taylor Wessing to attend an open day with them if they get the opportunity, even if it is a virtual event rather than in person. Not only was it extremely helpful for finding out more about them as a firm and their culture, but it also provided me with lots of application tips that I can apply to other vacation scheme and training contract applications in the future.
