    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I immensely enjoyed the insights I have received. I found it valuable to listen to different JPM employees. I found it quite useful to hear what they had to say about the culture and the work they do. Work culture is quite important in my opinion to be a happy employee. It was interesting to see what the employees did on day to day basis to decide what I would like to do in the future. However, I would have preferred if there were more opportunities to chat with different employees in smaller groups. Maybe through zoom/ google meets as face to face connection is qutie important.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I selected 5 as we weren't able to get familiar with any one of the employees or build any sort of relations. With all the events being virtual and only the employees visible and our questions curated and picked out it lacked the opportunity to bond with employees and get to know them ,and for them to get to know us. I felt valued in the sense that as a company you are very eager to invite students in and show them around, but it being virtual I did not feel as valued as maybe I was there in person.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I said 6 because the tech challenges we did were quite guided and fun. We were also able to discuss different ways of joining JPM which I found very good and supported in that manner. However I would have liked to see more tech guidance in the way of talking more about what technologies you use and what we can do to learn those. I know there was a support team available if we had questions about secure code warrior however I never needed that help so I cant answer if their support was good but it was nice knowing that there is someone we can ask if we are stuck.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I don't think I developed many skills durign this spring week. However, secure code warrior allowed me to dive into cyber security which I found extremely intereesting and I would like to learn more about this field in the future. When it comes to the information received about intern positions and graduates position it was very helpful as it will let me decide as I progress with my course whether JPM is for me and if it is I know the procedure for the internships/graduate programmes

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I give it a 6 as I think it was hard to come up with a spring week on such a short notice and make it virtual. However, from my friends who have previously attended the spring week in person, they have said they both did a lot more and learned a lot more. In this way I feel like the structure lacked the community feeling and the opportunity to make friends with fellow spring week interns. I also think that the events were quite sparse as I was prepared for a full week of activites instead of few hours of events.

    3/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It is difficult to gage the atmosphere when you aren't there in person or you can't see the other attendees. The employees were all very nice, kind and cheerful so when it comes to them I think they made the atmosphere nice. With the addition of more face to face time and maybe ice breakers for the interns the atmosphere would have been better . I felt a little bit alone as I couldn't speak to anyone for the duration for it apart from ask questions and not all of them were picked ot be answered.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • JPM got secure code warrior to allow us to use their page for the week which was very nice. I appreciated that as I never did anything with cyber security and that was quite valubale. Would not say there was any personal training apart from allowing us to develop some skills while working on the secure code warrior site. I think JPM employees invested a lot of time in preparing the virtual spring week for us which I am thankful for, much better than cancelling the event.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Getting to hear about the culture from the employees was qutie beneficial. Everyone spoke quite highly about it and this leads me to believe that the culture is quite good and it sounds like a place that I could work at. They also discussed their roles and what they do which is insightful as it is hard to see what Software Engineers do on a day to day basis so it was useful to hear from them.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The employees did a very good job of talking about the culture and letting us know that JPM values their employees and interns. It sounds like a place I would like to work for. However, I think it would be more beneficial if it was in person as then I could decide for myself if what the employees are saying is true or is this just something they feel obliged to say about the company and its culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was helpful in the way that I know that I want to learn a lot more about cyber security now, however it did not make me decide on what exact career path I want to focus on. Secure code warrior was very interesting and I definitely want to explore that path however because it was such a short experience it did not make me fully decide that that is what i want to do in the future.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were not paid or reimbursed. It was a virtual experience so we did not get any reimbursemenet for wifi or anything. Before it got cancelled we were supposed to get free flights and hotel for the week and that would have been all paid for and anything we would have spent on getting there would have been reimbursed to but with it being online there was no need for J.P. Morgan to reimburse us.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The only events we had were the ones were employees would discuss what they do, the JPM culture or talk about internship and graduate roles. We were not able to meet any other employees which was unfortunate. The ones that we met were also not on a personal level it was more of a panel and we could type questions and some questions would get answered by them. Outside of these events there were no opportunities to meet other employees.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There were no networking/social event opportunities. The only events were panels were the employees of the company chatted about their roles, the culture of the company or about intern and grad positions. There was no opoportunities for the interns to meet fellow interns and to make friends. Nor were their opportunities to chat to the employees on a 1:1 basis. It was unfortunate but I understand that with it being moved online it was hard to create these sort of opportunities.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes and no. The sole events were based about the employee's work and the JPM culture. Some employees mentioned the things JPM is doing during Covid period. These incldued virtual coffee chats and meet ups. They also said that before Corona they would do team get togethers etc however that was kind of the extend of what we found out. I know from Code For Good Hackathon I participated that they can volunteer for events like this and even have their own hackahton but this was not discussed during the spring week.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I gave it a 4 as I would not reccomend the online virtual option we had this year. I know it was hard to create a virtual spring week in such a short period of time but it wasn't the best. It lacked the networking and getting to know other interns part which I was extremely excited about and I think is vital. It was also not what we expected with it being moved from a whole week event to I think around 5-6 hours of online events and that was it However, I head that the in person week is great and I am sad that I could not have experienced that.
