    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it because of the people that I was working with. The opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of training sessions not only for divisional knowledge but personal development. The ability to work on a variety of projects and assist on tasks. It was great to have a wide variety of support not only from your manager but other managers in the global team and mentors and team members. It was great to work on projects that pushed your abilities.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by my colleagues who gave me feedback on the projects that I was completing. It was easy to ask even the smallest of questions and receive help to ensure you understand and complete your tasks to a high ability. Their good feedback helped you feel valued and inclusion within the team. There are regular catch-ups allowing you to have different discussions and raise issues as well as provide feedback, which is great.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There is continuous support through regular feedback discussions during the week as well as providing feedback on your projects which helps you to support. They also help provide advice for future opportunities. Management was friendly and supportive from the beginning to the end of the internship, which makes you feel valued in the team. It is great to have this support network because not all companies have this and this is important for me too.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy throughout the majority of the internship. It was quite intense at the beginning with all the sessions and trainings and other tasks to complete. But the internship was also shorter than previous years. Your managers are supportive in ensuring that you can manage your time well and are aware of this so you are not left feeling alone. There is always something to do and even to find ways to improve processes.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • There was a lot of responsibility given you had the opportunity to work on projects that directly impact the team and others. I also worked on daily tasks and was trained on these so it was a lot of responsibility for a new intern - which makes you feel valued and gives you opportunities to make an impact. This was great for your learning and to help where you could throughout the course of your internship.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think it will help in a variety of ways. To ensure that you receive continuous feedback and find ways to improve processes is crucial in life. The knowledge shared by senior management is great to take on board for your life and career development. It really shows how the firm cares about your development. It teaches you how to prioritize tasks and time management skills. You develop analytical skills and communication skills which is very useful.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is very friendly and inclusive. I was not in the office physically but the firm ensured we were connected and the team had a variety of technologies that made the atmosphere very collaborative. There is always the opportunity to have a catch-up which can lead to very fruitful discussions and positive outcomes. There is a nice atmosphere and polite and professional atmosphere which makes it nice to work at and enjoy doing the work with others.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised with constant communication before and throughout the internship. There was great organisational structure to it with what I will be doing communicated and the opportunity to be involved in a variety of training and webinars. The operational aspect of it was great. There was always communication which makes the interns feel involved and valued part of each team. This made the whole experience great from the beginning and that the firm cares about its future.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot of time with a huge number of training sessions and webinars to understand different areas of the firm. You got involved in divisional training that did not just include your team. As well as skills based training for the future which is great because these can be applied later. The firm really cares about your training with the opportunity to take more courses as well and they want you to develop.

  • The future employment prospects are great for those who want to develop a career in this industry. They provide you with great guidance and ability to succeed within the team and beyond if that is what you want. There is great mobility within the firm. They provide great opportunities for analysts and interns and other joiners to succeed within the firm, which is great because this means your career path can be very good for people.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was the ability to communicate with other interns and know who else was with you throughout the summer. There were networking opportunities provided and those that interns themselves created for themselves which allowed for us to gather and have more informal interactions as well as further sessions for networking planned where interns could gather and have fun. These provide opportunities for networking and meeting others. I was involved in at least one of these.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities to get involved in different community team work projects which were great because I really wanted to have this chance to do so. And despite it being virtual this was made possible and the project I worked on contributed to a social cause so this made the internship even more fun and enjoyable. there are also many other sessions that are unrelated to work but personal, social, physical development and activities.
