The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement. The work was challenging and varied but I got a lot of support along the way. I did the internship in 2020 which meant it was digital, and they did a very good job at making it run smoothly. There were a lot of interesting talks and events to keep us engaged, but we also did do the normal work of the team. So I think the working experience was very similar to what the full time job would be.
I felt very valued by colleagues. They definitely treated me as a full member of the team and tried to engage. The people were inherently very nice and welcoming, so that happened a lot. But there was also a very noticeable conscious effort form the side of the firm to make sure everyone engages and includes us. For example, there was a buddy system and every day without a particular reasons I had several zoom calls with my buddy where he asked me what I was up to and how he can support me in my work.
There were two levels of employees who were responsible for us. Everyone got a buddy, who was the person they worked most with, and was usually a 2nd year analyst or similar. They were there to help and teach you all the small things and I found they were really good at supporting you. Then there was also a mentor, who was usually a VP, who assigned and guided you through your main tasks. They were there to help you develop your work skills. However all your other coworkers were also friendly and would always answer a zoom call.
I would say just the perfect amount. I never felt like I had too little to do which is impressive considering it was a virtual internship. However I also did not feel that I was overworked.
I felt like a member of the team and I was given the chance to work on real work that made an impact. I helped the team with day to day work but also worked on a larger project which the team needed done.
I learned so much about finance and really thought that my skills developed. The support was definitely there to learn everything I needed to.
The Company
Really friendly and collegiate. You can really notice that even if it was a virtual internship.
I think the organizers really thought through the logistics of the online internship and did it well.
I certainly felt they invested in me> The training was extensive and a lot of seniors and junior employees invested a lot of time in my development.

If I receive the job offer I intend to take it. I would love to build a career with this firm.
The Culture
Yes even in the online environment they made an effort to have zoom socials and engage everyone.
It was work from home so no additional cost.
NA
Yes they had a volunteering opportunity.
