    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I absolutely loved my time at JP Morgan! I worked in HR for 10 weeks and found it so engaging and varied, whilst still having lots of responsibility. I was working on real cases and projects that have now effects all J P Morgan employees, and i was only an intern!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Every colleague that I interacted with was extremely engaged in helping me to learn and feel comfortable with my tasks. Many colleagues took time out of their days to show me how to complete a task or allow me to shadow them in order to see what they did. Within a week I felt like part of the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager, as well as the Graduate Recruitment team, were extremely supportive and the atmosphere was very positive. Unlike many internships / vacation schemes, where it is competitive and cold, i felt nurtured and like they really wanted me to come back once i graduated, which they have now offered me a grad role.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had meetings scheduled in every day, and my days ranged from back to back telepresence meetings from 9-5, to 5 hours free which allowed me to get on with my tasks and shadow other departments. I could be a busy or as free as I wanted/ needed to be and could always sit in on my manager's meetings to observe.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a huge amount of responsibility. I was able to sit in on confidential meetings on my first day and worked on very high profile proposals which I presented to members of the operating committee. I was also allowed to take on as much or as little responsibility as I liked as I had lots of freedom over what projects I got involved with.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Coming back to my Law university course I am so much more confident, especially when giving presentations. I have also found that I have a lot of company/ employment law knowledge just from working in a large business. I have also found that I have gained significant skills in Excel and Outlook and my writing, which will benefit me forever.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was very positive, with general discussions about life/ tv shows/ the news. I instantly felt welcome and everyone in the office was extremely helpful. The whole building was very modern and functional, with lots of places to work if you wanted a change of scenery.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The HR internship was extremely well organised to go alongside the Corporate analyst and tech analyst programmes. There were regular events and weekly lunch and learns where i could speak to a senior member of staff and learn about their career path and job role. The programme leaders were very supportive and always on hand.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was trained from having no HR experience to doing many tasks on my own. I also received an Excel training day and a Corporate Social Responsibility day where i learnt more about the company ethos. J P Morgan invest heavily in their staff's morale with regular office events, free food and offers.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have accepted a Graduate Role with J P Morgan. I am very much looking forward to working there full time and completing the 3 rotations before i can choose a position to roll off into and work there full time in a settled position. As soon as i started the internship i knew i wanted to work there full time.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were three intern socials organised by Graduate recruitment, with free drinks and a hired out venue. There was also regular events in the workplace for interns and graduates to socialise, so everyone got to know each other. Futhethermore it was encouraged to socialise as interns outside of the workplace as many people were not local and were in rented accommodation together.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • There were company paid parties where drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were free and there was food and nibbles throughout the night, with the venue paid for. There were also regular nights out as it is a Uni town. the cost is average for the UK at £5 entry to clubs and drinks varied with deals.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are many clubs and bars in the area, along with lots of restaurants ranging from cheap chains to fine dining. there are also many activities and places to socialise like bowling alleys, crazy golf and cinemas. the nightlife is good despite it being outside of term time so no students around.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • there were regularly offers for things like work sports clubs, including badminton and rounders, and running clubs during lunch time. there is also a sports centre next door so many employees go to the gym during lunch time or after work, often with members of their teams. there were also regular intern events like beach trips and nights out.
