    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I definitely did enjoy this internship quite a lot and this is mainly because it was my first time working in a financial industry and it gave me quite a good view on what the field is exactly like as I did not really have a prior conception on what it would be like.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I think that in some way, I did feel quite valued by my colleagues. This is because they took me under their wing and made sure that I was picking up on the details and seeing exactly what they were doing and understanding it but it sometimes felt that I was just watching.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given lots of support and guidance by my supervisors and also the colleagues themselves when I was allowed to do tasks which was quite nice as it meant that I was getting quite prepared for working in such a financial job which was quite nice and this meant I got a better understanding of it.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I think that I was not very busy on a daily basis but there was always something extra I could do or learn from my colleagues that were working there as I had a lot to learn and they had a lot to tell and teach me which was quite nice.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given some sort of responsibility in certain tasks but these were mainly closely monitored by my supervisors but this was quite understandable given how even the smallest error margins can make or break huge profits and losses in this industry. Some of the time, I would just watch and learn from them.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that the skills I developed of Economics will definitely help me in the future as I have a greater understanding of the world of Finance that is not really included in my degree and this will provide me with experience and will prepare me for perhaps getting a job in this field.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Generally, the atmosphere in the office was quite fun and nice and we all got on quite well so it meant that I could learn much easier from them and talk to them in a much more easy and free flowing manner as we got on very well and the communication was great.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think that the internship was set up quite well as there was a perfect mix of me learning from the employees there and there was also a chance for using the software there and doing and experiencing the work they do first-hand which was a new experience for me, definitely.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think that the company invested quite a lot in me as they let me take a role in financial analysis which was quite fun and they provided me with a lot of skills that will perhaps be useful for me in the future and they provided me with the experience.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would definitely love working there in the future as I really am interested in the world of Economics now and I would imagine that they would be interested in employing me again potentially if they do remember me in the future as I did put in a lot of effort there.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was definitely a good social scene amongst us as we got on very well and we also talked a lot at work and there was just generally a good atmosphere there. On top of this, it felt like there were many opportunities to meet up outside of work as friends.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I did not have to rent accommodation near work as there was a tube station right by the office so I was able to take the train and commute to work from where I was currently living. Furthermore, there were many decently priced opportunities for socialising in the area near the office.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was quite a lot of nightlife in the area that I worked as it was in London so there was a multitude of opportunities to partake in and there was pretty much something for everyone to do and perhaps even different stuff to do every day working there which was fun.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a few opportunities to get involved in outside of work. This mainly consisted of social events with the colleagues but also included visits to the stock market and an insight into the world of investment which I also found quite interesting and perhaps a potential career path for me.

    4/5
