    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the insight quite a bit because I got to familarise myself with new kinds of styles and what the latest trends were by talking to the customers and the employees there who were familiar with latest fashion trends and it was nice to keep up to date with this also.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I did feel quite valued by my colleagues as I was assigned my own area to work in and they trusted me to do my work there effectively and only occasionally checked up on me. I also felt valued as they gave me lots of advice on sales and other things related.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given quite a lot of support and guidance by the other employees working there because they gave me lots of advice on how to help people effectively and they also gave me a lot of advice on how to talk to the customers about current fashion trends to help them.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I think that there was a perfect balance of work generally. There were always tasks to do as I was assigned some tasks and took on extra when customers came but I never felt rushed and I rather felt like time was on my side as these tasks could be completed while I talked to other employees or customers.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a lot of responsibility during my placement. I would say this as it was quite probable that I had many tasks to do on a daily basis and I helped many customers, just as the other employees did and this was quite nice to know they trusted me.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the single most important thing I picked up while I was working there was that the fashion trends are continuously changing it and I got to see what sort of direction this was headed in for the future so I got to see how fashion itself is continuously changing.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Generally, working there was relatively fun. Although I did have quite a few tasks to complete, it was never too much to handle and there was often times where I could have conversations with customers and other employees and it was nice to know that they felt comfortable enough to do so.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the work placement was set up quite well. This is because it was treated kind of like a job there in which I had almost the same duties and responsibilities of an actual employee so there was a nice bridge here for me and I appreciated this sort of introduction.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think by working there, they invested something in me. Though they did not give me upfront training of any kind, I picked up sales advice from the employees there and I picked up on different trends in fashion from both the customers and the employees which was a sort of indirect investment.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Although this experience was very nice working there, it was more of a learning experience for me rather than anything else and it will be vital for me as I move into the fashion design industry so while I was indeed grateful, I do not think I will go back there for a job.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great sense of community between everyone there which was very nice. There was also a social scene amongst us which mainly came in the form of company events and parties outside of work as well as a few independently organised events which was very nice to know we were that close.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The shop I worked in was in London so the housing cost there was of course very high as well as the cost of socialising but this sort of matches the higher wages offered in London. Also, it is important to notice that travel is very easy in London so it is not at all necessary to live near the shop.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There were plenty of discos, pubs and bars at night to attend for nightlife. These were often very packed but could also be overpriced. However, there was quite a variety there so you could find what you are interested in if you would like so there was pretty much something for everyone.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities to get involved in outside of work with the employees. There were organized company events and parties to go to. As well as this, there were plenty of other activities around the shop to go to with friends which was nice as there was a lot to do outside of work also.

    4/5
