The Role
I quite enjoyed the internship as the experience enabled me to build a wide network around the firm. The platform allowed me to learn new skills by reaching out to people globally through the network I was actively encouraged to build. Additionally, the opportunity to work alongside one of the brightest minds in the industry enhanced my experience here.
I felt that the work I was undertaking definitely added value. This is because I was encouraged to have regular catch-up sessions with senior people to give them an update on my projects and gain guidance on how to approach things differently. This also allowed me to add my perspective to certain projects which was taken into consideration by my colleagues.
There was constant support given throughout the internship. Each intern is assigned a buddy and mentor in addition to your manager. This gives the intern exposure to a diverse range of perspectives which helps when dealing with situations. Additionally, the firm encourages an informal support system through various diversity committees that exist within the firm.
Given the nature of projects, every day was a learning opportunity which kept me busy throughout the internship. In addition to the team work, the internship is structured to provide opportunities to work with interns around the division. This diverse range of responsibilities helps in identifying what work to prioritize and how to manage your time effectively.
Some of my tasks were the same as the tasks an analyst would carry out. In addition to this, quite a few projects added value in terms of automating tasks and reducing time for the team. Other projects involved building tools which the team can use on a global level. The nature of projects reflected the level of responsibility similar to an analyst's.
Given the nature of my projects, this involved me picking up different programming languages and applying it to add value. By pursuing programming, this will enable me to approach financial concepts in a logical manner rather than purely looking at fundamentals. Additionally, this enhanced my critical and problem-solving approach which will help when taking math modules in university.
The Company
The atmosphere was not too stressful, it was ideal to motivate you to work. Additionally, the office has many rooms such as the focus room which can help provide a quiet space to work. Also, everyone in the team is very approachable and friendly, making it a great atmosphere to work.
The internship was very well structured. There were many events which gave us exposure to the whole business, division and our respective teams. These events were organised throughout our internship so we had the opportunity to always learn something new every week. Additionally, the first week is purely induction-based, which gives you enough time to find your grounding within the firm.
The company has a platform, called the Goldman Sachs University. This platform can give you access to a vast array of resources. Throughout my internship, I had the chance to access this platform in order to learn about the different programming skills. Additionally, our teams encouraged us to have regular catch-ups with people we would work with on projects to enhance our understanding.

The Culture
The interns in our class were very supportive and helpful throughout the internship. We would help each other with our respective projects and have the chance to pick up on different skills as a result. Additionally, the intern class would go out for drinks at least once a week, which helped in building a relationship within the work environment.
