    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the internship very much. I was very happy with my team and I think it suited very well my skills and technical knowledge. The knowledge I gained was broad and went beyond the division within which I was interning. I would recommend this internship to everyone who wants to get exposure to the world of finance.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have always felt that the contribution I was making, both the special assignments and B A U stuff, truly helped my colleagues and took some weight off their shoulder. Moreover, they always made sure I understood the nature of my assignments as well as the impact it would be having.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The company has excellent buddy program as well as mentorship program within the firm. Managers and senior staff is also always available for a meeting. The only think that could be improved is perhaps to have mentors and buddies from various divisions so that I could find out about different aspects of the firm. However, I have always felt supported and well guided by management / supervisors.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My day to day activities were fairly manageable and I always had time to look at my projects that were different from bau stuff. My day would always be quite balanced and I never felt like I can not manage my duties and tasks. I would be busy all day every day, yet in a good sense

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship. I was working on the projects that were requested by our clients and therefore I felt like I was trusted, I felt accountable and I knew that my work would be valuable to my team and to the firm.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During the internship we have received a great deal of educational sessions that help me to understand where my team sits within the firm. Furthermore, my team organized for me numerous sessions with the teams within the division we mostly interact with. Also, the firm provides great resources for technical and personal development.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In general I have always felt welcomed and supported. The environment is competitive however in a good sense. I have always been looking forward to every day. Everyone was very friendly and always found time for a quick catch up. In general it is a very productive and efficient working environment where one can progress very quickly.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the structure of the internship was very good however I would appreciate more cross divisional activities to gain broader knowledge of what the firm does and how do they do it. Otherwise, we received a well structured schedule including all sorts of activities from educational series to networking sessions.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We have received a subscription that allowed us complete online courses and start studying even before the internship if we wanted to. Later during the internship we always could access various resources to help us develop both technical knowledge and skills. Also, various people across the firm would always be available to help and guide us as well.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would definitely come back to the company. It absolutely is a place to kick start my career and I know I would be progressing very quickly. The company invest in their employees and the general environment is very supportive, fast paced and competitive and that is something I enjoy very much.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The firm is a very sociable place and people are always happy to catch up also outside of work.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is quite an expensive city in general. In general going out is quite expensive.

  • The nightlife is very versatile and one can never be bored in london/

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a community team work day as well as some networking events we could participate in.
