    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was really great as i got the opportunity to get insights into many areas of the firm and everyone was very open to meting me and give me an insight into their role and responsibility. Additionally, the desk work I was allowed to do was very varied and I got a lot of responsibility.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was always very open to meeting and give me an insight into their role and responsibility. All my colleagues were always very open and honest when answering my questions or concerns. They also gave me very good feedback and advice and generally were very helpful in navigating my internship in the 10 weeks.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were very supportive as they gave me a lot of feedback and checked in on my progress on a regular basis. They were also very ready to address my concerns and help me with advice. My supervisors really helped me identify and develop my strengths and weaknesses and made me feel like an integral part of the team.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was usually very busy but was given the opportunity to also flag it if I felt overwhelmed. I also was allowed to ask for work if I felt like I could do more. Still, sometimes I believe I could have done a bit more but considering it was summer and the employees also weren't working at full capacity, it was as perfect as the situation allowed.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given much more responsibility than I thought I would get prior to the internship. I was allocated tasks that were directly impacting their business and was allowed to own them and take full responsibility for my contribution. While I believe that I sometime could have been entrusted with a bit more, I believe that I could still do a lot for an intern.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think I learned a lot during my internship and could develop a lot of new skills as well as improve some of my existing ones. Unfortunately the internship did not really assist me with my degree studies but this is mainly due to a fact that I chose to do an internship in a completely different industry.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was very good, everyone was very motivated and committed but you could also openly talk to most colleagues. The atmosphere was the perfect balance between professionalism and openness and it also encouraged such behavior from us interns. We could be collaborative and we weren't did not have to be overly competitive.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship as a whole was very well organised. The human resources team scheduled us very interesting events but also allowed us the freedom to schedule our own day. The flow of information was also timely and concise and you always knew what was expected from you and what the next steps would be.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company ensured that we got as much training as we needed as well as giving us the tools to ensure that we had access to any additional training that we required. Besides the general intern training our managers and HR made sure that the internship was a continuous learning experience.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have not yet heard back if i managed to get a job but in general we got the impression that if we performed well, we all had the chance to gain a job offer at the end of the internship. They were very transparent with the future employment prospects and what a full time job in the firm would look like.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of us interns got along really well and we went out to do things together at least once a week. This was also encouraged by the firm and we weren't given the impression that we had to be very competitive as interns with each other which meant we had the liberty to be as collaborative as we wanted to be.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As the internship was in London it meant living and socializing was relatively expensive. This is not something we can change however and we weren't in the most expensive part of London. As we, however, were paid a competitive salary this was not as much of an issue to us and the cost of living and socializing was not prohibitively high.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As the internship was in London, it meant the nightlife was very good. We also got to experience quite a lot as we interns did go out a lot together meaning we could take full advantage of the location. However, as it was London, the nightlife was very expensive for us.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a large offering of activities to get involved in outside of work. For example, we had a corporate social responsibility day where we cleaned up a park and we had a division wide dragon boat race that we could participate in. Beside these events, we could also use the firm internal gym.
