    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Goldman Sachs. Not only, did I get the opportunity to learn on the job, but we got exposure to various different divisions and roles within Goldman Sachs. This allowed us to get a much broader understanding of how a bank functions on a day to day basis, as well as the different career paths open to someone working at Goldman.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was fortunate enough to be apart of a hardworking and motivating team, that gave the opportunity to develop my own skills. My team were incredibly supportive throughout the entire internship. Additionally, from the very beginning i was made apparent to us how valuable we are to the firm, and how much time and effort they are willing to invest in us to develop us to our fullest potential.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • From the very first day on the desk, we as interns were told to ask questions when we do not understand something, and the environment was so supportive of this. Anytime there was something I was unsure about I was confident that I could turn to my team or manager for help.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Days were busy, but I feel like the job is fast paced and moving so it was a very realistic reflection of the role. Which I believe is very important for any internship, as I wanted to understand what was required of me in order to succeed in the role full time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I am delighted to say that during the internship you do have quite a hands-on role, and are very much involved in the team over the course of the ten weeks. We also had a project for the end of the programme that gave us more responsibility and freedom to show our skills we had developed over the summer.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have learned and developed over the course of the 10 weeks will play a valuable role in my studied. Form my technical skills in excel and power point to developing my accounting and financial skills, I believe this internship will certainly have a positive impact on my studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was completely different to what investment banks tend to be pictured at. I experienced nothing but support and encouragement throughout the internship from both my manager and team , as well as HCM and others on the floor. everyone is willing to help and support each other, it was very encouraging.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall programme for the internship was incredibly well structured and organised. Each week interns had something planned and a session that would explain a different division within the firm. I believe that the structure of the programme certainly made the programme much more enjoyable and engaging.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the start of the internship all interns have scheduled training, for our sector we had a week long training programme with an independent company. This was fantastic to have at the start of the internship and gave us all a foundation to build and develop and also gave us the confidence before beginning the internship.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects for the company are incredibly appealing. As interns we were fortunate enough to have exposure to current BA which are juniors and had the freedom to ask questions we had. You are paired with a buddy during the internship and they are a huge help and support system, especially with regards to future job prospects.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social seen was okay. A lot of the interns dint really know each other that well at the begging but as the weeks progressed it got much better. Towards the end of the internship we had much more of a social network and people began to go out after work and enjoy themselves.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive place to live and socialise. So in terms of cost of living rent was very expensive and socializing was the same. this was probably a deterring factor for people to go out at the beginning of the internship.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I am not too sure. as I am unfamiliar with London and therefore the area in general I don't know what the nightlife near wok is like. However, some of the pubs near the office were so much fun. I think it has a lot to do with your company.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • yes loads, we had the option of joining the gym in work. that meant that we had the option to participate in all different classes that were on throughout the day. we also had the chance to go on a community team work day which was a lot of fun.
