The Role
I enjoyed the summer internship a lot - it was a great way to get an insight into how the division and the firm work. I really got along with the other interns which made working on our presentation an enjoyable experience. I generally felt that the work I was doing was valuable and satisfying.
I felt valued by my colleagues to a good extent. I felt very comfortable asking questions to people both on my team and in other departments and divisions. I felt more valuable in my second rotation as I was given more work to do, compared to my first rotation where the work was mostly long projects in which I could not always get involved.
Both my buddies were excellent at lending a helping hand whenever I needed it, and giving me work to do when I had spare time. My managers were absent for a significant proportion of my internship due to being on holiday and working from home which made it difficult to rely on them for guidance and keep them posted on my progress.
In my first rotation I was not very busy and felt that I could spend a lot of time networking, doing extra training modules and explore my interests in other parts of the firm. In my second rotation I was much busier and my work was more dynamic, which I preferred.
I was given a good amount of responsibility during both my rotations. My main project was totally owned by me so I enjoyed being the driving force behind my progress. In my second rotation most things I did were overseen by other members of the team but I still had the opportunity to show initiative.
It was very useful to experience working in a corporate environment because that was completely new to me. The work I have been doing has been largely irrelevant to the work I do in my degree. However I think that the soft skills I picked up will be useful for my future career.
The Company
In my first team the atmosphere was a bit more laid back and focussed on long term projects and decisions. The second team was more dynamic and collaborative, and the team was more youthful which made it easier for me to get involved and feel comfortable quickly in the team.
The structure of the internship was well managed but the prior information we received was largely irrelevant to the work we did on a day-to-day basis. We also did not find out our teams or managers until a couple of weeks before joining, so I did not have time to do very much research due to university exams.
I was pleased with the extend to which the firm invested in the professional development of the interns. The work was meaningful and allowed us to get a good insight. However more training could have been provided before and during the internship which was specific to the division, so that we could make the most of all the opportunities available.

Very appealing
The Culture
I got on very well with the other interns in my division, but we didn't socialise that much with the other interns because they took work a bit too seriously and so we did not have as much time to spend with them. It was also nice to meet with the new analysts; more events could be set up to initiate this.
I lived at home so didn't pay rent, train fares were approx £500 per month.
Too expensive
Not that much
