    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the firm - It was a very well structured/organised internship. I feel I was able to learn lots about the role in investment management as well as gain a deeper understanding of the company culture. Overall, I felt I made good use of my 10 weeks.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by the team/my work colleagues. They were approachable and set out time to sit down with me whenever I wanted to ask a question - they really want you to succeed! It was relatively easy to contact other people in the firm from other divisions too.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There is a lot of guidance given to you and there are many people available on the floor to help you with work/projects if you get stuck. However, your supervisor tends to be very busy so it is not always possible to ask them for one to one help specifically.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy! Your calendar gets filled up with lots of meetings and networking events, but it is all worth it! You will never be bored during the course of the internship - the firm ensures that there is always somewhere for you to be/someone for you to meet up with!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel that I was given a great deal of responsibility - the firm truly values your input and your ideas, and hence they allocate you with a great deal of independent work to reveal your capabilities. I felt that this really was a chance for me to shine/show my talents!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • For me, I don't think I acquired many skills relevant to the academics of my degree, however, the intership teaches you great discipline and organisational skills which are vital to all parts of life in general. It gives you a good insight into whether you want to work in investment management in the future!

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship at GS is so highly sought after because it is so well-structured. I could tell that there was a lot of planning that went into the whole scheme, and there is much flexibility and scope for you to find a place in the firm that best suits you.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is a chance for every intern to receive a full time offer after the internship - of course, if the firm likes you and you like the firm. In this way, it is a 2 way interview between Goldman Sachs and yourself. I am not aware of the success rate.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene amongst the fellow interns - the firm organises many networking events which give you a chance to meet other people on the floor, and there are many divisional events which give you a chance to meet other interns. There are also many team challenges.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I think there were quite a few chances to get involved in extra-curricular activities outside of work (the firm organised a few sessions regarding these extra-curricular activities), however, I did not engage in many - you find that the internship is very demanding and your day gets booked up quickly!
