    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the overall internship. I found that the main reason for this was the people I was working with and the interns on my floor. Also, at no point was I given meaningless work (such as photocopying and printing) to do. Of course you do some admin stuff because you're just an intern but I found value in most things.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From my experience I found that when a colleague asked to complete work they would make time to go over it with me and give me feedback. This made me feel very valued as an intern. However, there were a few instances where I felt as if they were too busy and gave me a long document to read or a long contract which was not even relevant to any work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was in a bit of a unique position because my supervisor left to go on sick leave two weeks after the start of my internship. For about a month I was moved between different teams and it was a little messy before finally being moved to a new team permanently for the last month. However, there was someone else on my team (who was based in Bristol) who remained supportive throughout and was always a point of contact. But because she wasn't based in my city was still difficult.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I found this really varied but for the most part I would have free time in the day. I found that my colleagues would want me to spend a lot of time on a small task (perhaps so they wouldn't have to worry about giving me work?) For example, they would say spend until lunch time proofreading this document when in reality it would take half an hour to do. This meant that I was doing things extremely slowly to make them last longer.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I don't think I was given any 'real' responsibility during this internship A lot of the tasks which I did were described by my colleagues as things they have always wanted to get done but haven't had the time to do themselves, such as changing the formatting of something to make it look nicer. Overall, I think had the tasks which I had completed during the internship not been completed it would make no difference to the company.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I would say that a lot of the skills I utilised such an analytical skills, reading long contracts etc are very useful to my law degree. Additionally, I took part in some soft skills training to improve things like communication and confidence which will assist me in both my degree studies and day to day life.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I would say the atmosphere depended on what team I was sitting on at the time. I found that some teams were very quiet and would never talk to each other whereas others would have fun while they were working and it would be a more exciting atmosphere to work in.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Although I think it was set up well, there were no emergency measures in place. For example, if someone's manager had to take leave there was no measures in place on what would happen tot hat intern and I found myself sitting alone for a few weeks with work emailed to me from my team in a difference city which was not a fun experience. Additionally, there should be a more clear means of someone to go to for help if your manager is not giving you any work at all.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • One of the teams I worked with was the training and development team. Because of this I was in a very unique position because I got to attend all the training session that were put on. Also, I think the intern charity challenge helps a lot with training and development but this was more of a personal thing than the firm investing.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I don't think I will but not because of the company itself but because of my own personal career plans which are completely different to the work done at Lloyds. However, although I wouldn't consider an immediate graduate job I would not rule out applying for a job here at some point in the future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I found that for the interns who were living in the accommodation together they had much more of a social scene than the interns who commuted. Although there was always someone to sit with and have lunch with there wasn't much of a social scene outside of office hours in my opinion.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very expensive. In London travel cost me on average £6-£7 a day. Also, if you didn't bring food from home lunch would set you back maybe £5 as well which can definitely add up. However, for those who didn't commute and were provided accommodation there was no travel cost as it was of walking distance to the office.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in London is really great. However, the only downside is the cost. if you don't know the area well/ how club promoters work you can find yourself paying extortionate amounts to enter clubs. But, if you do your research you can usually get in for free so its important to research.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I wouldn't quite say 'endless' but there were definitely loads of opportunities. Most notably, the charity challenge for interns which was a competition with prizes and took place over 6 weeks or so. In my team there was also some events going on for charity such as quizzes and other competitions.
