    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved immersing myself into the world of finance. I enjoyed working with my team, and inter-divisions as well as my recruiters. I thoroughly enjoyed networking with people and working on projects. Working with my intern group to present a pitch was rewarding and also presenting my final presentation to the team.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were all very friendly and welcoming; they were never hesitant at all in supporting me and giving me feedback to improve I felt valued by my team in the work that I was doing and felt that I settled in well with my colleagues firm wide (including on a global-scale)

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given plenty of support and guidance. If not by my team, but my mentors and the people I'd met from other teams and divisions during catch ups and networking sessions. We had regular feedback sessions and two formal performance reviews to monitor progress and discover how to improve further.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Initially, I felt unsure of expectations and what I needed to do; the first couple of weeks sometimes I found myself unsure of what to do. This was quickly rectified when I informed my manager and recruiter and since then I have been involved with many projects with my team and on my own. I have worked with other interns on presentations and projects Even networking alone was a busy time!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given full responsibility during my 10 weeks at GS. I was never thought of as anything other than an employee which came along with real responsibilities and I was fully accountable for my actions. It was my responsibility to speak to the right people and ask the right questions. Without asking, you wouldn't get - and only then would they provide you support and assistance you need.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that the skills and knowledge gained during this internship will help me in my future career. I have learnt a lot of technical skills/knowledge which I would have never learnt as a student Hands on learning has been amazing and it has given me confidence that will assist me in my studies for final year and beyond

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Amazing atmosphere at my desk and on my floor. I loved how you can just be free to walk up to any desk and anyone and say hi and ask a question. the flst structure was also amazing because we were able to speak to seniors comfortably and with ease which was unexpected for me

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HCM and the teams did a great job in preparing multiple sessions for the interns: speaker and learning series, panels and networking events We were given a timetable for the first 2 weeks in terms of sessions we needed to attend and also having regular catch ups with my buddy, manager and mentors gave me a sense of what was expected of me.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company 100% invested into every aspect of my time here. When I struggled with accommodation at the start, HCM were there to help me. They gave me accesses and even access to the gym, canteen etc making me feel like a real employee of the firm. The cimpany definitely invested their time, efforts and money into our time here - free lunches, CTW day (free trip) and reimbursing travel costs

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Most definitely. We have intern group chats and on most days, people wanted to meet up for drinks after work

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in east London in hackney (just past shoreditch) in a student private halls which was nice as many other interns also lived there. Due to this, social life was good. Cost was £200/week which is decent for London. Also, the commute was decent. 1 single bus from outside the accommodation, taking you directly outside work!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Didn't really go out much But London was very lively and there was plenty to do and many options - spoilt for choice really

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many events held outside work, like pub quizzes, drinks after work and you can join many things outside Bear in mind after this, not much free time to do anything more - unless you plan your time really well
