    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was a great experience and overall it was much better than I expected. I really liked the people and the atmosphere at J.P.Morgan and I think that really made a difference to my internship. The colleagues would value my judgement and would support me in speaking up when I wanted to contribute.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • 4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility, was writing daily reports sent to a large number of people and was helping with everyday tasks at the desk. The colleagues also supported me in reaching out to as many people as possible and helped me in getting know the other teams.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere on the trading floor was really busy and sometimes stressful especially when there were many things going on. As an intern it is quite weird to watch as you cannot really help because of many restrictions and you are just trying to support the team as much as possible. Otherwise the people I interacted with were helpful.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The plan for the internship was full of events and I particularly liked the events organised by the smaller group we had for CCEM. I think it would be better to have more events towards the end of the internship, rather than having most of them at the beginning because the second half lacked some.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I really liked the first 1 week of training we got - it was a good way how to meet people and how to develop your knowledge in different asset classes. I think it would be good to have more teachings during the internship from different desks and possibly have sessions with the analysts to know what their job is about.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think the opportunities at J.P.Morgan are amazing and you meet incredibly smart people each day. Therefore I think the prospects in terms of job satisfaction are really great and one can have a successful and long career with JPM and never get bored at the same time. I would definitely recommend JPM as a company to anyone interested in working in finance.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living near Canary Wharf is quite high and the restaurants and bars were also pretty expensive. However compared to the central London it was still below average and comparable to other capital cities and something I would expect. I think the company does a good job in paying the interns enough to be able to cover the costs.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I think there are many opportunities but I probably did not know about many of them. But my team would go for a run sometimes together which is nice, or I got involved in the Corporate Challenge which was a lot of fun and also a good way to meet new people.
