    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my work placement as I was really interested in the team I was working with. I was able to both used what I had learned from university and previous experiences but also to learn a lot from the job and all the people I was working with. In addition, the team made me feel really welcomed, taking the time to answer my questions. Finally, I was still able to get exposure to other teams which allowed me to have a broader view of the line of business I was working within.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team I was working with was helpful and welcoming. I felt like working with them rather than just an intern with an end date on its contract. For these reasons, I was able to work on a lot of different things, from daily tasks to live deal execution. It was really easy to ask them any question or just to discuss with them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management and supervisors during the internship were able to guide me and ready to answer any question you may have. Despite their busy schedule, it was always easy to ask for some time or some advices, which also really helps to feel like I was part of the team. Even when I was not reaching out to them, they made sure that I knew I could come see them or other members of the team.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy but on a perfectly balanced manner. Work was well splitted between daily tasks, short-term tasks or more long-term tasks. It was up to me to balance everything and to know which project was to prioritize but the team was also always making sure I could ask them which task was more urgent. I also felt that it was a great experience of how an analyst would have to organize his work and time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel like I had responsabilities linked to my placement. I was able to help on many things, and things I was not able to do because it is the responsability of a director I was included and the team made sure I could ask question to understand more what responsabilities will come as you change positions within your team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I already some experiences in my line of business but I learned even more and was also able to learn from other teams within the line of business. One of the strenght of this placement is also the fact that we had trainings on different products and teams throughout the length of the internship which really helped to learn more and to gain skills that would be really useful for me as I wish to continue in that line of business.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was a perfect combination of work and fun, both being rather important in order to get the most of your placement. When times were to work, it was really to concentrate on your tasks and work. However, it was also really easy to talk to colleagues or enjoy more relaxed moments to discuss and have a quick break. However, the general atmosphere was not stressful and a perfect place to both work and learn and have fun.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • This internship was really well organised - a perfect mix of work, networking events, training, more relaxed events and learnings. WE had the chance to be well guided by a great team of Junior Talent. My time here gave me a chance to work and to attend networking events, both really well organised by all the teams in charge.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company, whether you were staying 10 weeks or 6 months, had organised for us learnings and events on line of business specific learnings and well as more generic learnings and well being events. Throughout the internship, the company made sure we had access to both personal training and development as much as work learning and was investing in us as if we were full-time analyst.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Following my internship within Bank of America Merrill Lynch, I am really looking forward to have the opportunity to work full time here. Both the culture of the company as well as its competitiveness in the financial system makes it an amazing place to work. In addition, having the opportunity to do an internship here has also gave me a view on what a employment here looks like, and I really want to have the opportunity to work for the Bank. Also, the Company invests in you like a full-time analyst and it is up to us to make the most of this experience.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The atmosphere between the placement students/colleagues was perfect as it was both a combination of networking events and learning and also outside of work events. We managed to create a good group, also created by the events organised by Bank of America Merrill Lynch. The Bank makes sure you have time to meet and spend time with your fellow placement colleagues in your Class, creating a stong link between us all.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Bank of America Merrill Lynch is located in the City. The cost of socialising and going out was really reasonable - London average. I was not living in the area but somewhere else in London at avereage London prices and was able to come to work walking which is a great chance. As the Bank is located in the center with a lot of transport connection, it is rather easy to live wherever you wish to in London and to find a place at a reasonnable cost.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area the Bank is located in is great to meet with colleagues or friends over the week. It is less during the week end but this is due to people not living in the City but rather somewhere in London. Overall, the all London area is a great place to stay and live and the nighlift is really diverse, making it easy to find something you would enjoy.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Bank of America Merrill Lynch has a broad list of events, sports, charities you can get involved in and participate outside of work. As an intern, I had the opportunity to have access to these events. Activities were organised for the interns but you could also choose to participate to more activities following what you were interesting in.
