    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed my internship at state street where I was able to work on different projects (within the department i was placed in and with the other interns). Overall good opportunity there was a good work and life balance but more work woud have been more valued in terms of development

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Overall, I felt very valued by my colleagues. They were really friendly and supportive of me. Good social events which i was invited too and good contact times with different colleagues. Overall weekly contact regularly scheduled meeting with my line manager and via email and face to face throughout the day when i had questions (sit very close to them)

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • 4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say I wasn't too busy on a daily basis. I had a variety of different work (a high amount of cleaning up presentations etc) but then some project work which i had a few weeks to work with so had lots of time to work with it so that took up a lot of time with my intern work ( group presentations / projects) Should have asked for more work to complete within the department but there wasn't much more work available.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the responsibility of working on 2 projects. This included basic research skills and giving a presentation on a long term project. Day to day responsibility was cleaning up presentations (didn't add content just altered the design). Would have liked more responsibility should have asked though for it (which would have been given)

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My skills did improve for example research, presentation, communication and IT skills. I worked on a variety of different projects. I should have asked for more Excel work to improve on these skills but that is something I should have reached out to gain. But overall good learning and development I received.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great not too formal (however smartly dressed) (mainly smart casual becuase this was during the summer). the internship had a nice amount of interns where we all meet every lunchtime in the canteen (on a big table). The atmosphere from colleagues (other than interns) was also great with them offering support and guidance. Also good social events after work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I would say that the organisation of the internship was a weakness. But overall the internship was excellent however, The IT system was not set up and took a few days because the system at State Street is not as quick as it is in other organisations. Also, some of the programme events could have also been improved. The very US structured set up with lots of video link talks

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would say the work that they gave me developed myself in terms of skills and knowledge. There were specific training and development sessions which were run by the HR team at State Street to improve communication and presentation skills. These were run in an excellent manner. Could have been improved with more learning and development tailored to UK not via videolink which limited impact

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was excellent among all of the State Street interns. We always met every lunchtime in the canteen on a big table so we can talk and interact with each other. The events outside aswell was great including at the end some drinks events. We really bonded due to the intern projects.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Expensive because this was in Canary Wharf

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Worked in Canary Wharf so there are many different nightlife activities and if not in Canary Wharf on the Jubilee Line a short distance away from central London. I didn't really stay beyond 11 but what I experienced was nice with different open spaces. During Wimbledon season it is even better with more open spaces.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
