    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed it mostly. As it was only a one week winter vacation scheme, everything felt overwhelming at times, as we had two to four hours of talks each day in addition to the work our supervisors gave us. I did appreciate getting a greater insight about what working at Stephenson Harwood was like.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I helped out a bit, but I did not feel like I did any substantial type of work that no one else could do. I did utilise my other language skills to conduct some research on the relevant jurisdiction. As a placement student I was treated very well by the firm.

    3/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I did not receive too much guidance, but it usually was not necessary as I was left alone to complete my own tasks. However when I did receive guidance, my supervisor was very willing to teach me, even though he was busy and probably could have finished the tasks he gave me in a much shorter time.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Having sat in the Marine and International Trade department, I learned a little about shipping law. Otherwise, it was just conducting some research, doing proofreading, and attempting to draft legal notices. These activities were beneficial as they are exactly the types of tasks trainees will do, but I did feel out of my depth at times.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was nicely structured. We had talks every day of the week (except the day of the assessment centre) regarding the firm and its practices, which allowed me to develop a greater understanding of the firm. It was a good balance between listening to speakers and doing work for my supervisor.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone is very friendly. I met some trainees, associates, and partners while at the firm and they will engage in conversations with you if they are not busy. The culture of the firm is great. I find that it felt very non-hierarchal and they do want you to do well.
