The Role
Some really interesting and informative aspects to the internship with great exposure to the retail world. However, sometimes there was little to do when the office was quiet.
Was not given much responsibility however, every colleague I encountered was kind and helpful.
My line manager kept me updated each day with new developments, caught up with me after meetings to ensure I understood the conclusion and arranged attachments with a variety of different business areas.
Initially I was kept busy and when there was downtime I could find things to do easily. However, after the half-way point there was less and less to do each day and in this sense, the internship felt too long.
I was given very little responsibility on a daily basis. Every now and then I was given small 10/15 minute tasks to do. However, I did have a project to complete which was entirely my own responsibility.
The Project and Career Management workshops were helpful when looking forward to managing work at uni and beginning to think about my career beyond uni. I also learnt many applicable skills that will be useful both for my university course and in future job roles.
The Company
Everyone was extremely kind, helpful and accommodating. I made lots of great contacts easily.
The first four weeks were well organised and relatively busy. However, nearer the end my internship lost structure.
I was invested in through exposure to the M&S environment and clear explanation of the ongoing, company-wide targets, as well as training in different software and company jargon.
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
There is a grad-scheme available to apply to when I graduate and the company invests a lot in their employees careers.
The Culture
Yes, all the other interns were very friendly and we all met up for drinks and lunch.
London is always expensive, especially my £15-a-day commute!
We din't go out much but London has great night life
I mainly organised things with other interns
