    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was an enjoyable and challenging experience. We had the opportunity to network, both with our fellow interns and employees, and attend a series of talks, which allowed us to learn more about the various roles offered. We further received vendor training which enhanced our skill-set so that we were able to tackle more interesting case studies.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I definitely felt valued and made to feel part of the team. The staff who were looking after me, always made sure I was okay. There was once I felt a little upset since I was having to do the same thing, and as a result was not getting to experience new things. But they made sure my concerns were dealt with smoothly.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We were given as much guidance and support that was necessary during the internship, however a large part of the experience was to go out and search for a solution for a particular problem with your own intuition, with these rewards being the most satisfying. Overall, I felt well supported, making it an enjoyable experience.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My ability to work in a team was enhanced during the internship. I now feel more confident to navigate group work settings. I have also gained confidence in terms of networking, as my experience of socialising with employees at the firm was very rewarding. Aside from these "soft" skills, I have also improved my technical expertise e.g. basic accounting & valuation

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was well structured in the sense that we were able to achieve a large deal in the space of two weeks. The internship length itself was certainly helpful in terms of getting the most out of the experience. In terms of the assigned work, this perhaps could have been better spaced, however, if it is too perfectly organised, it does not mimic the true analyst experience!

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was a positive, dynamic, diverse workplace. Employees are incredibly friendly and accessible to you, and speakers make a great effort to help you learn more about the firm and its various roles, and are always open to questions. There was not an atmosphere of competition, but rather, a togetherness; a team atmosphere in place of an individualistic one.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was clear how much the firm invested in our personal development. I was able to gain a lot of skills but also develop ones I already possessed, in particular skills such as teamwork and leadership. On the insight programme, I was testing and enhancing them in a different environment, which was very valuable for my personal development.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • As the programme was quite long, I got a good insight into what a full-time role would be like. We attended many presentations on the sub-divisions within Operations, so we were given a more genuine insight into the array of possible roles available. The insight was very good in terms of finding out how Goldman Sachs values their employees.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Employees did their best to communicate what the nature of the firm's culture is like. Talking to various employees on a one-to-one basis also provided further insight. However, I did feel as though I was just skimming the surface. A longer internship (e.g. the summer programme) would provide a more solid insight.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the whole two weeks spent at Goldman Sachs was insightful. We attended many presentations and gave a presentation of our own also. The buddy we were assigned was also helpful in giving career advice too. The recruitment team made it very clear that we should, if interested, apply to Goldman Sachs for future opportunities as we possess skills that they are looking for.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Goldman Sacs was very generous in the sense they paid us for our time and reimbursed expenses where necessary.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were a plethora of networking opportunities available to us. These included official networking events. Some events were targeted at certain genders or minorities, which helped promote diversity. Other opportunities were organised by interns ourselves, for example, reaching out to employees during our time at the firm to meet for coffee.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I very much enjoyed the networking and social opportunities as it provided a great chance to get to know GS employees and more about the firm.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, there are lots of different sporting and volunteering opportunities that staff can get involved in.
