The Role
Overall it was a great experience at the London Office, everyone was friendly enough and I felt like there was always something to learn and to do. Never one day was the same which was a big plus for me as I get bored easily. Sometimes not enough to do for the day but overall good!
I definitely felt very valued by every one in the team and even sometimes outside the team. There was a lot of responsibilities placed on my desk, which makes you feel like you are truly needed as an intern (which often is not the case) and also everyone voiced their appreciation.
I wasn't given a lot of guidance by my manager but in a way that worked for me personally. I am quite independent so this style of management was good as I could take initiatives on a lot of things however if you need to be shown everything this might not be for you.
As mentioned previously, I sometimes felt like there was not enough work for my full days but overall as I really enjoyed the quality of what was given to me it's not a big deal. I always tried to ask around if help was needed so initiative did help a lot.
A lot of responsibility! Even on the first day I was given important tasks to perform independently from the team, so it was a little stressful but this is what makes it a great working experience. I was also able to present my own ideas which was good. Always had new and challenging tasks.
Even though the work experience was a great one I do not feel like I learned a lot of things that would've been useful in the future. Time management was definitely one of them but as I did not pursue a career in this field I don't think I took away as much as someone else might've.
The Company
Very nice atmosphere with everyone being friendly enough. Maybe it was missing the usual 'friday drinks' vibe that I have had in other places so it made it harder to get to know people. However it was great that during the summer we got 'summer firdays' meaning we finished at 3pm!
It wasn't a formally organised internship placement so I suppose it's different than the grad schemes or internship schemes in other places but it is also what made it special as I was able to be very independent and do my own thing rather than follow long and tedious procedure.
The company did not invest any time or effort in training and or development but it is to be expected in a way as I was only an intern there for three months I did not expect to be given extensinve training. I was however helped by managers if need be.
It is a great organisation and if I had pursued this career path I would have enjoyed being there as a full member of the team. I did not get a good vibe though about the salary as people seemed to be a little underpaid (especially myself as an intern) for being in London.
The Culture
The area is amazing, central London right next to the Oxford Circus tube station and almost in Carnaby street. So many bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes. It's always really busy so if you like this kind of area you will love it there for sure! Lots of options and things to do
There was not much opportunities to get invovled in activities outside of work unfortunately. I wish that there would be more of an inclusive atmosphere which would've made it easier to get to know people. However if you take action into your own hands people are always nice enough to have a chat!
