    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The J.P Morgan Spring insight week had the perfect balance of presentation and interactive based learning. We were given detailed overviews of the different lines of business within markets and took part in related activities to provide insight into whether said line of business was best suited to us. We did desk rotations to experience the different roles first hand while learning from industry experts.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I believe that everybody on the program felt accommodated and valued throughout. A considerable amount of time and resources were invested in us during the week all the way up to senior business representatives. This goes to show just how much the company values the cultivation of budding talent.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We were consistently told that there are no silly questions at J.P Morgan. Every question asked during the week was considered and answered carefully. I really got the feeling that all of the business representatives to which we gained exposure really strived to give us each a unique well rounded insight into which roles would best suit us.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that the information I received will allow me to channel and focus my degree studies in such a way that will give me the best chance of making my studies as relevant and applicable as possible to work in Markets in an Investment Bank. For example; now that I know the required skillsets, I can identify and further develop areas that I would like to enhance and I can tailor my elective and project selection to be as topical as can be for the working world.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The week was meticulously planned so that very little prior knowledge was required. We first learned about all of the different roles within the business and then went onto experience a number of them for ourselves on desk rotations where we gained invaluable exposure to the roles that simply cannot be learned on the internet or in the classroom.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • There was an atmosphere of inquisition. I particularly enjoyed the fact it really felt like we were there to learn and gain insight rather than just competing for an internship. Naturally there was a bit of friendly competition but there was no unhealthy competitiveness and this allowed us to really gel as a group and develop relationships that I hope will last for life

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We received a number of personal development sessions as well as more technical events for us to gain as much insight into which roles would best suit us. There was never a dull moment nor a moment where there wasn't something to be learnt. I found myself wanting to note almost everything that was said.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think that no amount of classroom based learning or research can truly show you whether a role is for you. You must experience it first hand. This is exactly the opportunity we were given in J.P Morgan as we sat on a number of desks and were given detailed descriptions of everything from overview of an average day right down to the very detailed nature of the products and technical aspect of the role

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • By definition the more people within the business you gain exposure to the better an idea you'll have about the company culture as you can see how they interact with one another and people on the program. We had the privilege of meeting a huge amount of people every day from all walks of the business and all gave the same resolute picture of the culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • We were provided with insight into all different aspects of the business and had interactive activities that allowed us to discover for ourselves which specific roles within the business would best suit us

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Our travel, accommodation and meals were all paid for in advance.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We met many different business representatives all the way from the most junior from whom we could gain insight into application processes and early life at J.P Morgan all the way up to the most senior members of the business who could provide a career long insight into life at J.P Morgan. We had many networking events both within and outside of the walls of J.P Morgan.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The business representatives were all enthusiastic and willing to answer any questions one might have. They were more than willing to keep in touch and provide insight whichever queries one might have in the coming months.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I couldn't recommend this insight more strongly. I honestly learnt so much in ways that simply can't be achieved in the classroom, lecture theatre or browsing the web. I learnt a lot about the company itself, the roles within it and the technical knowledge required for each. I now feel like I have a comprehensive insight as I move onto internship applications.
