About You
The Insight was the best choice I've done so far in my career since it provided the best opportunity for me to actually get a peek into the culture of J. P. Morgan Chase & Co. as well as to see what their full-time employees are doing and how they are operating the company. Overall, I would encourage everyone to take the step of applying to one of their Spring Weeks since this will let you form a stronger opinion about the company.
I was shocked when I saw how well the whole event was organised at first. Initially, to be honest, before coming in, I only thought that we will be left around to wander alone inside the firm, but NO! The way they have actually organised the programme impressed me most: ice-breakers, loads of enriching activities and the most important: treating us as adults and having the courage and trust to let us into the firm and talk to employees about their work.
I must admit that the insight proved to be a good experience for me and, overall, for everyone I've talked to. We were taught it's ok to ask question amongst other things and if we did not know something or we were unsure about an aspect we were encouraged to actually talk to someone. The most pleasant surprise: the staff were actually keen and happy to help us with most of our issues and I know an instance where one of the interns there really has a complex issue with her future placement and the coordinator was more than happy to fix it: 2 minutes later, job done and the girl was sure what to do next. This is the level of support and confidence that J.P.Morgan offers inside their firm.
It depends on what skills you are looking forward to developing there. I, myself, cannot say that I have needed some of the activities there, such as "learn to speak up" since I am already accustomed to this kind of things. Being a StudentRep, Volunteer and doing all sorts of communication-oriented activities in my past have left their print on me. On the other hand, for an introvert-kind of person (and there were quite a noticeable number of them) I have noticed that the activities really helped them on a personal level. In terms of actual degree-related skills, I must say that the Spring Week has provided with all sorts of new ways of how to programme, mostly relying on popular programming languages. The hardest one was to actually come up with solutions to loads of tasks quickly, which, in my opinion, really improves one's critical thinking as well as to actually improve on brainstorming ideas.
The Company
Overall, the insight was really well structured, aside from one instance where we all felt that the lecture was not properly integrated with the whole week. Aside from this little annoyance, the response we gave was that we really felt as if our time was valued and the result was astonishing even from the team (i.e. they had not expected for us to be so happy for how things turned out to be)
In the first day, we were all acting like flies, jumping around since we did not know where to go and what to do precisely (that was just a 20 minutes instance, though). Immediately when the recruiters and staff came out of the doord we were given a welcome presentation. After things settled, I must admit that we all felt quite relaxed and sure of what we were going to do and what we knew about topic X and subject Y.
They really stepped up in that direction, in my opinion. It was a pleasant surprise since they have actually gone the extra mile to organise networking events for us to connect with actual employees and to actually ask about their paths to being a J.P.Morgan full-time employee. We have also met people on the Graduate Scheme who felt really content about the firm (which strengthened our opinions about the company overall). I would say that they have really really put an effort to invest in us and I would definitely recommend to anyone to take the courage to attend one of their events since they will be feeling valued on the whole duration of the event and even further.
Well, as I have said before, the insight really helped a lot! If not anything else, it provides a direct door to knowing and meeting people in the firm, thus enabling one to actually have a glimpse of how a full-time employee's day actually is going. I would say that, for me at least, this opportunity helped me decide that J.P.Morgan is going to be 100% on my list of future placements
Again, as I have mentioned before, the Insight actually does just that: it's a gateway to seeing how the company works as a whole and, most important, how they are treating employees. As far as I have seen it so far, J.P.Morgan really prides itself on the quality of the full-timers schedule. As a side note, I would also mention that they really are into volunteering, organising all sorts of events just for the kindness of it. One would not think about this, but they all act like a family and they rely on one another to get their job done. Moreover, they are actually having fun! It's like being a Google intern, but on a full-time job and in a financial business!
Quite valuable, I would say. Initially, I did not think that going to this Spring Week would make me so determined as a person, but after attending it, I must admit that it was a step in the right direction for my career. To summarise, J.P.Morgan is definitely going to be in my Top5 placements places to go!
Everything Else
I, myself, have been reimbursed for the travelling expenses and they actually took care of any sort of issues in this regard happily. On the other hand, one must note that they will not pay you since you're staying there less than a week and you are not actually contributing to their business, they are, in fact, contributing to your career.
YES! As I have said before, YES! Loads of them! And they actually provided a good way of asking semi-formal questions regarding life in general, life as a JPMC employee and so on. Overall, I felt content with the networking events since all my questions have been answered on the spot and with professionalism and kindness.
Thourough, I would say, and very very insightful. The staff there would answer any question as soon as they could and they were happy to do so in an instant. If you ask me, this has been one of the strongest points of the Spring week to actually make my decision of being sure that JPMC is one of the best places to work and "live".
Yes I did! The answer was: a lot of volunteering! It was quite a pleasant surprise for me to actually see that they are into this kind of stuff since it proved, once more, that they are not just robots working all day long, but they are people with a big heart and ready to share their skills with others just for the purpose of helping someone in need. Good Job, guys!
Yes, of course, I've already said this quite a few times already. The insight is a great opportunity for everyone and it really showes the company that you are interested in them, so they will be interested in you too. One would gain a lot from attending this kind of event and I am hoping that anyone interested will actually take this step in their careers.
