    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • This was an amazing 3 day experience. We had two little hackatons, workshops about user experience and introduction to the cyber security. Lots of networking events during the lunch break and after the day. People were very welcoming. Students were also encouraged to talk to each other, one of the events was spend playing bowling together.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Students were approached as staff members. No attitude to us as being unprofessional or not experienced yet. People were very approachable so I could speak to anyone I like and ask many questions. We were also asked for feedback at the end and were given the response to our opinions immediately.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There were two two hour shadowing sessions with people working in different departments of the company. They would guide us through the process of applying for the job, tell about their experience and give useful tips. During the little Hackathons there were mentors we could ask for help or assistance.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I made lots of connections with other students which might be helpful in the future. I also liked the company after seeing it from the inside so I would definitely apply for an open position there. The workshops were incredibly useful, lots of them had a focus on the team work so I feel I should be way more confident working in a group of people.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was very well structured. We had a good amount of workshops, food breaks, networking events, entertainment, work shadowing. Everything was very well balanced, maybe one of the hackathons was a bit too long but we discussed it after the event and organisers promised to change it for the next year.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was great! We got to feel the culture of the company, people there are very friendly. They also are allowed to wear casual clothing which makes the place cosier. For students I would highly recommend to experience these three days. Some of the students in my group asked if they could reapply for this program next year.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think they invest a lot. We got training, entertainment, coding sessions in order for us to learn a lot about teamwork, good coding practices, human computer interaction and lots of other things. I am sure this all was done to show us what is it like to be at the company.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It showed a lot. We had a graduate panel where recent graduates were telling us about their experience of joining the company and how the graduate scheme works. Also we had work shadowing sessions where we could ask these questions further. As well as this networking events were organised for us.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • A lot. People were incredibly friendly to us and when work shadowing sessions were happening we could walk to different floors of the office and see people working or discussing something. It was clear many people treat each other very well. Also casual clothing was allowed so it felt cozy.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very valuable. Both challenges and work shadowing showed me that I am interested in working for this company. Interaction with the staff members was also quite good, everyone was very approachable during the socialising sessions. I think if I join the team I will feel welcomed and get used to the environment fast.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Students who didn't live in the city were reimbursed on flight tickets and were provided with a hotel to stay in for two nights. The hotel was right next to the office in the city centre. Students found it to be very helpful. I personally did not spend any money.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, we had a graduate panel where we could ask recent graduates about their recent experience of being employed by the company. During any break for food (lunch, dinner) there would be different employees invited to come around. We were very encouraged to ask them any questions we were interested in.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were great, we could speak to anyone we liked and ask questions about their experience at the company. During the work shadowing the employee introduced me to her team members so I had a chance to see how different members of the team contribute to the project from their perspective.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • During the work shadowing session the employee showing me around said there are lots of events organised at the company. For example, next week they will be having a hackathon for company's employees. Also volunteering and other events. This was quite impressive as I find it a great opportunity to meet others.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, definitely would recommend. It is a great opportunity to meet other talented and motivated students from different universities and with different backgrounds and to learn more about the company to decide whether it is for you. Of course you are supposed to put some effort and not be afraid to communicate.
