About You
I spent two very engaging and enjoyable weeks at Shearman and Sterling LLP. I very much enjoyed the work that I was given, which was both varied and challenging. The vacation scheme provided me with a good understanding of what it would be like to be a trainee at the firm.
I felt well valued during my time at Shearman and Sterling LLP. I was given exposure to interesting and engaging projects and my team welcomed my input and suggestions. Furthermore, my team took the time to get to know me as an individual and encouraged my personal development throughout the two weeks.
I felt well supported throughout this vacation scheme. My team and line manager were always on hand to answer any of my questions and provided me with clear and comprehensive feedback on the work that I was completing. In addition to this, my team gave me great career guidance and I now feel better equipped in my pursuit of a legal career.
This vacation scheme has greatly developed my skill set and knowledge of the commercial legal field. As I was given exposure to real-time projects, I was able to develop my research and drafting skills, which will undoubtedly benefit me in both my degree and my pursuits of a legal career. Additionally, I gained a greater sense of commercial awareness, which will help me in future interviews.
The Company
I found this vacation scheme at Shearman and Sterling LLP to be very well structured and everything ran very smoothly. My team was well prepared for my arrival, with an IT account set up, and had prepared a broad outline of the work I would complete over the course of the vacation scheme. In addition to this, the HR Recruitment team had organised a number of social and networking events so that we gained as much exposure to different areas of the business as possible. I cannot fault the structure of this vacation scheme.
I very much enjoyed my time spent at Shearman and Sterling LLP, which has confirmed my excitement about pursuing a career in the legal sector. This was in part down to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere at the firm, where I was made to feel like a respected member of the team.
Shearman and Sterling invested a great deal into our personal development, with the firm placing strong emphasis on employability skills and development. My team provided me with detailed feedback on each piece of work that I completed, which I found useful for development purposes. Throughout the vacation scheme, we were given talks by different departments, allowing us to gain a better understanding of different roles and departments.
This vacation scheme provides a good understanding of what it would be like to have a full time role at Shearman and Sterling LLP. I was able to see first-hand the type of tasks my team completes on a day to day basis and the various networking events provided a good insight of life at the firm.
Undertaking a vacation scheme is the perfect way to gain a better understanding of the firm’s culture and values.
The two week vacation scheme confirmed my desires to pursue a career in the legal sector, with Shearman and Sterling LLP as my top choice. The vacation scheme provided me a better understanding of the type of work trainees do and being able to gain first hand experience solidified my passion for the legal sector.
Everything Else
I was provided with a generous weekly salary for the duration of the vacation scheme. This covered my accommodation and travel costs.
There were plenty of networking events on this vacation scheme at Shearman and Sterling LLP. We had the opportunity to network with lawyers from across all levels of the firm, interacting with associates and senior partners alike. These networking opportunities were a great way to ask questions and seek career advice.
I found the networking events to be very enjoyable and informative! We were taken to the Duck and Waffle for a dinner, which was a really enjoyable and special experience. In addition to this, we had a cooking class, which turned out to be really fun and a great way to bond with other interns!
Yes, I found out about sport teams and employee networks that staff at Shearman and Sterling can get involved in.
I would absolutely recommend this insight to a friend! It was such a valuable experience and I would love the opportunity to return to the firm in the future!
