    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. From day one I had exposure to all areas of the business, working alongside some of the most intelligent people in the industry. Timetables were created to supplement our time on the team with talks, meetings and networking events which only enhanced the entire program.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt incredibly valued by my colleagues. They were always willing to give up their time to talk through processes, their day-to-day work or grab a coffee and have a general catch up. I was given responsibility to undertake some of their tasks which made me feel like part of the time and gave me the opportunity to add value instantly.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management was fundamental to my success during my internship. I had regular meetings to discuss my progress and what I was hoping to achieve and aim for. This was supplemented with more casual daily chats to ensure that I always knew where I was and what I needed to do to achieve my goals.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • AS my exposure to the desk and my understanding developed, I was far busier with desk work. Other events and program assignments away from my specific desk also filled a lot of time in my diary. This balance was certainly fine to cope with and it was managed by management to ensure that we never felt overworked or short of time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good level of responsibility during my placement, and from very early on. This was fundamental in giving me the understanding of desk processes. This also made me feel valued and trusted by those around me which gave me great confidence in my abilities. It was very much important to prove I was trusting and competent enough however before being handed such tasks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and training has been and will be hugely beneficial to my studies and career. Time management, networking, data analytics, computer programming systems, the skills I developed were endless. I cannot fault the training program provided on the internship, it really was top class and was developed to ensure you were well equipped in every way for the job.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great. There was certainly a balance between working hard and getting on with the job and being able to talk and build a rapport with colleagues. Everyone was most friendly, and I could not have asked for better individuals to work alongside. The atmosphere was just what you could hope from in an internship.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised to the finest detail. Calendars and events were meticulously arranged, everything was thought of and put into place to ensure that everything ran smoothly. HR were amazing in all that they organised. I really can't see anyway that they could have improved it, the internship was better than I could have ever hoped for.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The investment in individuals in terms of training and development was huge. There was not only a training boot camp at the start to equip you with all the skills needed, but continual training and development throughout the internship. Further opportunities were also available to expand your knowledge in particular areas which appealed to you.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are most appealing. The internship gave a fantastic insight into what full-time employment within the organisation would be like. With such a great experience on the placement, I knew that I wanted to make this my forever career, and wanted to do so with J.P. Morgan. I could not ask for a better firm to work for.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene. Fellow placement students came together after work to socialise in the local area. Events were also organised by HR on the program to give great opportunities to socialise with other students form all areas of the business. From this I was able to build not only a great network but also a group of great friends.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living and socialising was reasonably high, but nothing that one could not manage. This is all part of the experience, and to be able to live and socialise in the nicer areas, you must expect it to be more expensive. There are certainly cheaper options available if you are willing to explore other options however.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was fantastic. There are plenty of events and establishments in the area which can keep you entertained all week and all weekend. Travel in any direction and there is something to do to appeal to all tastes. It is a great area to work in with real character and atmosphere during the evenings.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities outside of work. These ranged from networking talks, social events and even charity events. All of these just enhanced the entire experience and ensured that you always had a diary and schedule rich with exciting events. The charity work I particularly felt was a great addition to the placement, allowing us as a group of young individuals to give back to the local community.
