    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Great insight, opportunity to connect and get in touch with individuals from other departments. Had the chance to see the manufacturing process although I am based in the marketing department in the company. Got hands on experience on the ways to apply coating layers, which I think I would not have been able to experience it at university

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • To a really huge extent, they were keen to explain my doubts and questions. Answers that were given by them, allowed me to enhance my understanding in the industry. It allowed me to consider a career in the field upon graduation. Also, was given a thank you gift on the last day of work

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Largely, emails and phone calls were frequent to ensure that I was good with everything. Was given the privilege to speak to other managers, and technical support team to have a better understanding of the products, what it takes to work it and how it is made, from the development until it reaches the end user

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had been tasked on a project, in which upon completion, I had the chance to have a real feel of the day to day job of the department. I was given various tasks, some were monotonous (something which i didnt like) and some were challenging. Through this task, it gave me an insight of the materials that needs to be prepared when presenting at an industry fair

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Across the period of my internship, which is for 11 weeks long, i was tasked to collect, filter relevant information and do the necessary filing for the important information to allow for efficient search for a particular document in the future. This does not only involved collecting information from the company's UK site, but also from the US.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I understood what it takes to be an engineer, how the skills of an engineer could be used in the marketing department, and had a rough idea on how much engineering technical knowledge could be used if i were to work in the marketing department in a chemical manufacturing company.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was given a spot in the manager's office, hence the office was slightly quieter from the marketing office.Occasionally, I was invited and given the privilege to sit with the other individuals from the marketing department, which has a better working atmosphere. This is ultimately because there isn't an empty working desk which I could use on some days.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was up to my expectations. The outline and plan which was given to me on the first day of my internship was followed closely, though there might be some little tweaks due to a sudden change in the other person's schedule. Other than that, i am happy with the organisation of the internship that i had just completed.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given great training. I was put in touch with the technical manager which gave me a great insight on how the products are made, how they are used, and the possible actions to avoid to ensure that the product could last up to the expected lifetime. Additionally, I had also learnt based on the opportunity I was given besides what I was only given.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I felt that I didnt fit well in the organisation, as I am looking to take up a graduate scheme. The company that I had recently completed my internship at does not provide one, however, I had not ruled out the possibility of returning to work at the company due to the great benefits and working environment. Additionally, being a full time staff will give me the opportunity for international travel.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yeap, occasional laughter and conversations were held within the office, increasing my awareness of some non related work stuff, but my general knowlege

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As the company I had worked for is in greater manchester, the cost of living is relatively cheaper than in manchester city centre. for the same amount of money that i spend in manchester city centre, i could get double the amount i could usually get. however, i chose to commute as i felt it was slightly difficult for me to move lots of my stuff there.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Im not too sure about this as I was not in the area at night

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Im not too sure

    3/5
