The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. It is a great opportunity to trial the industry, get a feel for the firm and your specific role. Beyond your day to day there is a training series through out the program as well as sessions with senior leaders and plenty of networking opportunities.
The culture at GS is incredibly supportive. It is a relationship-based organisation with a flat structure. This can be rewarding if you're a subject matter expert as you'll have more senior colleagues coming to you for advice and vice versa. I was able to meet with 20+ individuals across the firm to learn about their role and experiences.
This was the best part of this internship. Where you are proactive guidance is handed to you.
Some days were jam packed, other days were slower as my work was project-based and required checking before moving on to the next steps however you are encouraged to network and meet with people across the business so on days that were quieter I took advantage of this opportunity.
I was given ownership of two real-time projects and with guidance I led this work.
I definitely improved my data analysis skills, report writing, networking skills and professionalism through this internship. On a softer side I learnt to think on my feet and apply what I have learnt quickly.
The Company
The office is friendly, inviting and easy to adapt to. Sociable but dependent on the team.
Very well organised. It was quite structured and no two weeks were the same in terms of what I learnt and did.
Far more than I expected as an intern. I felt as if I wanted to be here they wanted me here too.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
Very appealing - it is a great place to start a career for anyone.
The Culture
Yes we regularly went for drinks as an intern group.
London is expensive but the internship compensation is manageable. The most expensive element being rent.
There is so much to see and do in central London and places like Covent Garden and Soho are a 15-30 minute walk from work.
Definitely - there are opportunities to get involved in affinity networks that host their own events and there are sports teams as well as volunteering opportunities.
