    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This internship provides a very valuable learning experience with abundant of opportunities available. I have given the opportunity to learn/understand the operations and some technicalities beyond my team which is an exposure that I greatly appreciate. People on the floor are very approachable and generous in sharing their knowledge as well as their opinion which are crucial for learning – one of the reasons that make this an enjoyable experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Could not recall an instance where my opinion or thoughts are ignored. The environment is very inclusive which played a role in making me feel comfortable to express any opinions that I have in mind during discussions. My work is valued by my colleagues fairly and feedback will always be given for improvement.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line managers cared very much about my personal development which I greatly appreciate. In the very beginning of my placement, I had a good chat with my line manager, where he is keen to find out the skills/experiences that I would want to take away from this internship. Helpful guidance has also been given by the team as for my future career planning.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I am quite occupied on a daily basis. Schedule would normally be filled with internal meetings or discussions as well as training sessions that has been arranged by the Bank. That said, it would very much depending on the team you are in as well as the timing of the year. I had 2 rotations within the 10 weeks – one is project-driven and the other is deal-driven, the volume of core work could differ.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Again this depends very much on the availability of deals on the floor. My roles in both of my team are of supportive nature – gathering information or data for client pitching and most importantly develop a good understanding on it. People will be happy if you proactively seek for responsibilities as that reflects your interest on that subject.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It definitely helped open up my mind and understanding on how banking works. I have also acquired skills that I think are transferrable to my studies or future career path e.g. communication skills, working in a more productive way. There is an extensive training program designed by the Lloyds in this internship programs – some modules around the Group values, how bank and the regulation works. Colleagues on the floor are keen to hear and given guidance on my future career plan too. They would put me in contact with other colleague that they think would be more experienced in a certain area that I am keen looking into.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It is an open office setting and people on the floor are very friendly. The open office setting has make discussions more inclusive even to the junior members. Everyone, not just restricted to your team, are approachable to any questions that I have encounter. The atmosphere is lively too. You are encouraged to work using approach that suits you best and be agile.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It's very well organised within my team in term of the learning programs/project that have been put in place for me. However, the overall work placement arrangement are controlled centrally by a team and a lot of times some information on our placement assessment and procedure are not as clearly set-up or made available more transparently.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are a good series of training prepared by the Bank during my placement. A few assessments have also been put in place to ensure that we are push beyond boundary and learnt as much as possible during our time here. Some adequate training qualifications will also be provided upon successful joining the graduate program.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • People are not as aggressive and it is approachable environment. They are emphasizing a lot on work-life balance, working hours for junior staffs can still be long since workload get pass down from the top. That said, I would imagine these perks would be reflected in the pay cheques. So whether it is appealing depending on your own trade-off.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Team drinks/lunch are not usual but the frequency depend very much on the team you are in.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The office are located on the City of London. In my internship scheme, accommodation is provided if required which is very very helpful. Costs of meals is depending on your own preference. Generally I would say it is the standard London costs of living

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Depending on the team you're in. This has not happened much during my time here which I am indifferent with.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lloyds emphasizes on getting involvement in various charity events. Interns are put into a charity challenge to raise funds and awareness on our partnered charity and the cause they are fighting for. Besides, occasionally there are opportunity to volunteer your time effort in some events e.g. help painting a school.
