    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • There are two sides; firstly everyone was super friendly and welcoming so it was always nice seeing my colleagues at work. However, accounting is quite repetitive so over the 6 week period, the work was not 'best job ever' level.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • Obviously as interns we have very little knowledge in the profession but I still felt valued by everyone and although some tasks were easier than others, they always explained why we did something.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • I felt very supported in my role for example our work always returned constructive feedback and even from a non-work perspective, I felt well supported.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • Due to the nature of the work and my level of knowledge I feel like it was not possible to keep me always busy as they had to find work that was appropriate to my level.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was allowed to speak to clients and gain information that would be used in the final work so I was given a good amount of responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • This placement definitely gave me an insight into the business world and everything that I've learned here (from accounting knowledge, how certain businesses operate, general work skills) will undoubtedly be invaluably in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Fantastic! Obviously there were moments where it was quiet so work could be completed but generally everyone is happy to talk to you and keep things light hearted.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • I feel like the internship could be more structured in terms of the actual work we had to do for example they planned which days we were in the main office and which days we would be on the client's site but on those actual days, there was little structure to the types of work I would be doing.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • People were happy to explain to me why we did certain things so it felt like they genuinely wanted to teach me rather than just using the intern to complete monotonous tasks. Furthermore, we had a career meeting with the graduate recruitment officer at around the 4 week mark to ensure our goals were on course and in general to ensure that any feedback was met.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • They arranged welcome drinks for us interns in the second week and I was invited to a pub lunch with the students so pretty good.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • It was London so unsurprisingly expensive.

    • I commuted so did not partake in any nightlife activities.

    • There were a few for example the JP Morgan Corporate challenge, and other social activities.
