    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The majority of the time I enjoyed gaining an insight into the industry and the role however sometimes things got abit stressful which wasn't enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues came to me to help with problems and questions which made me feel like just another member of staff instead of a student.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was brilliant, she was always available to ask for help and guidance. My initial training was thorough so I had very few questions but she remained patient and calm if I had any issues.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days/weeks would be fairly quiet with little to do but these were still valuable because there was still work to catch up on. Other weeks (particularly at end of month), would be very busy and I had little time to get everything done.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • For a time, my line manager was based in another office therefore I was sitting on my own so I had much more responsibility. This felt good because it showed that the company were comfortable and confident that I was capable to carry out the role without making serious errors.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My degree is in Business and Finance so is a fairly broad degree anyway so I feel that my role in the accounts department has definitely given me an insight into business accounts and I have a much better understanding now compared to simply learning information in lectures.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I moved office a few times because of reorganisation of departments etc but I found that the atmosphere in all offices was great. Everyone in the offices are really polite, friendly and fun so it was easy to get along with everyone but everyone was still focussed so it was easy to get on with work aswell.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I found out about my placement very late on so I thought there would be more issues but HR and my line manager were really good and cooperative. Everything was carried out very quickly and I started the placement just 3 weeks after finding out I was successful.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • My concern would be relocating. If the company was more local then I would be much more hopeful about working for them again after graduating but my concern is moving for the job and finding myself isolated. However, based on my experience, they are very keen to offer permanent positions to placement students once they've graduated.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • After a couple of weeks I was playing football with the guys in the office and eventually started playing intercompany matches which got quite competitive. Every quarter, we would go for staff drinks/night out in the local town and every 6 months there would be "team bonding" events such as paintballing/go karting.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living is fairly cheap. I go to uni fairly close to my placement so I was already aware of the prices to expect.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the next town along was quite good. A few weatherspoons and some nice bars but not many clubs.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • It was quite easy for me because the guys in the office like playing sports so I got involved in that quite early on.

    4/5
