2017 Spring into Technology at J.P. Morgan Review

I enjoyed it and found it very interesting, with a range of informative activities including some presentations from various departments, work shadowing (of a few different people in different departments) which was very informative as it actually showed what people worked on and how they went about their work. There were lots of opportunities for questions too. There were also numerous group activities including coding challenges, which were fun.

There were loads of networking opportunities and the vast majority of employees I interacted with were extremely friendly and willing to answer questions. Lots of the networking were over meals so they were quite informal which allowed for a relaxed environment. Which was similarly true for the JPM in general, it certainly presented as the kind of place I would want to work in.

There were always people around, who were willing to answer any questions and offer suggestions, even during activates such as the coding challenges there were multiple people on hand to offer help and give advice. Many of the group challenges we had observers who were watching what we were doing and taking notes on our performance, personally I found this off putting. Although I see the necessity of this due to the number of candidates where individual feedback was required..

Only a three-day event so not really long enough to develop much in the way of skills. However, it definitely provided an insight into how what I am studying at university has a connection to what happens in the work place. I was also introduced to more business focused ways of working such as using the agile model for development of software when working with a team. This kind of thinking does lead back to being useful in my degree.

Very well structured, we were give a booklet which had information about JPM, as well as a detailed program of all the events happening. The schedule was adhered to and there were activities from 8:30 til 20:00 in evening, so it was pretty busy and there was always something to do.

As previously mentioned there was pretty much always something to be doing or someone to be talking to, I was certainly not bored. As everything moved quickly we got loads done, and I certainly feels like I achieved something positive from the experience. The atmosphere of Bournemouth is really great, it feels relaxed and very technology focused, not like a bank at all - something I that challenged my original assumptions, and I was glad to be proved wrong.

As mentioned this was only over 3 days so hard to say.

Considering it was only 3 days, I thought it gave an excellent snapshot of what it was like to work at JPM. I spoke to numerous people who held a variety of roles across the various tech teams. However the tasks we participated in were unrelated to any actual work that JPM did and were all more learning/ team building style activities.

Lots of discussions about the company and what people did, not really long enough to see any of the culture for myself.

As mentioned there was lots of time for questions and many people gave their own experiences of education and being hired by JPM. I'm still not sure on my future career path, however I do feel I am armed with much more knowledge about technology in the banking sector and I am strongly considering it as a future path.

All travel expenses were paid for, while for myself was just a train journey but some others it was flights. The hotel was also paid for by JPM, and there was a coach to and from the offices on days we visited. We stayed at the Hilton in Bournemouth which was really nice (big rooms, comfy beds!), also a great location - very short walk to nearby shops and the beach. Unfortunately it was a little further to the train station, however there was a bus which would have been reimbursed (but I just walked as it only took 20 mins).

Many, significant time was devoted to this on all three days.

Yes, there seems to be charity work and groups available to JPM employees. We were given some information in our booklets as well as quite a bit of information verbally of peoples specific experiences.

Absolutely! It was only 3 days, but they gave a good look at JPM and what they do and offer. It challenged my expectations and showed me what what working at JPM could look like. Considering all expenses are paid (and food is included) even if you personally didn't think it was that worthwhile nothing would be lost.
