    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am grateful for the opportunity and loved my project and my colleagues. Many networking opportunities and training events were provided which allowed me to gain skills in new areas, whilst meeting new people and learning about the company at the same time. I would love to work for BNYM again in the future.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues helped me every step of the way and kept me motivated and encouraged to achieve the best I could. Many networking events were provided throughout my internship opportunity to learn more about what my colleagues do in the workplace.I will definitely keep in contact with them in the future to keep updated with how they are getting on.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Although my line manager works part time and was only in up to 2 days a week, my colleagues and mentors helped me through and also guided me where I needed help. I still kept contact with my manager through email and telephone. My 2 managers always pushed me to do things out of my comfort zone which was great as I am now more confident with 1:1 and large individual presentations.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I was given a set project to do, I was kept busy to maintain and update information on this. Every day, I gave myself a personal To-Do list in which I kept referring back to throughout the day, with each day having different personal and developmental goals. I also had a separate CSR project to do on the side which also kept me busy when I have updated the main project.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Throughout my internship opportunity at BNY Mellon, I was given the responsibility to create and maintain a information management tool via Microsoft Excel using account plans. Most account plans had a lot of information and data missing. I was given the individual responsibility to catch up with the executives to gather as much relevant information needed for the project.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that the skills I developed during my internship at BNY Mellon will really help me in my next Industrial placement starting this September as well as my last year of my University studies and further employment. Skills that will benefit me include presentation, organisation and time management skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was generally quite pleasant. Quiet most times which is professional and encourages you to get the work done, however, always time for conversations at the desks. You can always get your work done whilst in a fun, relaxed environment. I never felt pressured or patronised. I was always treated the same as someone who's worked there for over 10 years.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship programme was highly organised. The HR team did a great job of keeping contact with the interns to ensure well being and satisfaction. The programme consisted of various networking events and training sessions in the forms of seminars and individual online sessions. Every week, the interns learnt something different about the company as well as tips on how to improve your digital brand.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company highly invests in the individuals they take on. Throughout my time, they tried to help me substantially with finding a placement in the same company in the future. The company focuses on trying to improve and encourage you to gain new skills. A lot of time and effort was put into the interns by the HR, with even a 'graduation' presentation event at the end of the internship.

  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. I would love to return back to the company in the future. The organisation holds many opportunities including rotational graduate programmes and placements and I would love to further my network and experience within the company specifically. We have had opportunities to hear back from current graduate employees and it has been informative to hear about their experiences and the pros and cons of working at the company.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns acted like one big family. Due to many collaborative networking and training events, all interns met up many times throughout the experience. The interns met up regularly out of work hours also for catch ups to speak about current experiences, tips etc. This was a great way to encourage each other and to work together as a team whilst keeping up the social aspect of the experience.
