    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Yes definitely, it is a very challenging program and there is tremendous learning value. Interns are really taken to their maximum efficiency.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • People are always happy to help and explain things to you. But since it is a Trading floor, expect it to get really busy and use judgement to know if someone is busy or not. At such times, interns can get harsh responses but that is not personal and interns should get used to thinking that way.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Very strong mentor circle, always ready to help and support. We have buddies on the analyst/associate level and even on the vice president and managing director level, so always have someone to touch base with in any sort of scenario.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Training program warms us up for the coming weeks and once rotations kick in, it is all about maintaining a perfect balance for yourself. We can decide how much work to take on. We have desk jobs and we can accept other projects over and above that. So it depends on us how much we think we can take on and deliver. Underpromise and overdelivery is the general rule.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Sufficient responsibility but not substantial. We spend 1/2 weeks per desk so it is more of a learning value for us rather than a value addition to the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Definitely. We get to see a broad variety of desks and products which give us a good overview of the markets. Everyone is super helpful and we learn concepts in a very practical manner. Perfect first hand experience of the markets!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Generally quite energetic and buzzing. Most of the people are friendly and are happy to help and provide guidance. If free, they even step off for a coffee/lunch and that helps for better discussion.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HCM does a superb job and they are there at every step to guide in case things go off the plan. It is very well organized.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. Stands very high on my list! Vibe among co-workers is very good, learning curve is very steep, responsibility is given early on , company takes care of employees really well and pay is good as well. What else does one need!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Interns are helpful and will work together as a team. It is healthy competition and there is a good vibe among interns. We do friday intern drinks which is good and meet up on weekends if possible.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is central London so expect it to be expensive. But the salary covers it quite well, so not a big issue.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Central London, so ofcourse very lively and lots of events to go to.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We did a fun community team work day with fellow interns, which was good since we got to hang out with other interns in a countryside set up and add value to the community at the same time.
