The Role
The best training program ever, the internship is focused more on learning about different divisions (thanks to the rotation system) and getting to know various aspects of the job. Only enthusiasm and willingness to learn are expected and no question is wrong to be asked.
The culture is very focused on appreciation and every task done receives recognition. No matter how busy the teams are, people are always interested in getting to know the interns and willing to spend time with them explaining the context of the firm and providing useful advice.
The teams are very attentive at every level. It is easy to reach out to people at any level of the hierarchy and the firm structures the experience with assigned buddies and mentors. Senior bankers take the initiative to reach out to interns.
The workflow is manageable due to company strong efforts, however it is unpredictable (down time periods / intense periods come in waves) due to the very nature of the business.
The degree of responsibility is adjusted to readiness of individuals and there is no limit if someone has strong background. However, short time spent in one team limits the amount of responsibility possible to be assumed compared to longer placements (it requires some time to gain trust of the team as a new joiner).
The best training program ever, offers intense learning of technical skills and broad overview of the industry. Most importantly, the working style teaches strong communication and teamwork skills.
The Company
Very friendly teams, open and inclusive attitude and strict meritocracy. Good balance between task and people orientation. Everyone works very hard for the common goal.
Well thought out structure of the internship with collective effort of HR and employees to guide interns through the process, offer them as diverse exposure as possible and be receptive in case of any concerns.
Priceless training, both structured (a week of training before joining the first team + training scheduled throughout the remaining weeks) and on the job (employees happy to devote time to teach interns best practices).
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Competitive process which requires establishing good relations with multiple decision makers. The feedback is delivered throughout the internship to help guide the interns as to what needs to be accomplished to maximize chance for a full time job offer. Final decision to be announced some time after the internship.
The Culture
Large intern group from very diverse backgrounds makes for a great experience and plenty of social opportunities. Fellow interns are an inspiring batch due to hiring policy focused on gathering a varied group of people.
London is a very expensive place to live in, however the company makes up for it by organizing socializing opportunities for interns.
"When you are bored of London, you are bored of life."
The company organizes very interesting additional opportunities, however one should expect work to constitute major part of the experience.
