    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The job was excellent and provided an opportunity to get involved in a fast paced working environment, working on dynamic projects which were actually implemented in a live, production environment.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • JP Morgan has an excellent sense of community spirit and I trully felt an embedded member of my team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had an excellent line manager who was extremely approachable and gave me advise on a range of issues when required. I feel I have learned a range of valuable skills from my manager which I will be able to apply to any future work I undertake.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I feel I had a fair amount of work - enough to keep me busy but not overwhelming. As such, I managed my personal daily workload and this therefore provided a perfect balance.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • To my surprise, I was given a very large amount of responsibility within my placement. Whilst many internships involve doing mediocre tasks and some have special intern-tasks created for the roles, I actually undertook real work with deadlines which were implemented into a real production environment. As such it was therefore my responsiblity to manage these tasks and ensure they were a success - all under the responsibility of myself.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel I am finishing my internship with a variety of new skills. I have had the opportunity to undertake a range of training in relation to the Financial sector which has given me a better awareness of the industry and how it operates. As such I feel this will be applicable to any future role I undertake and partcularly in relation to my university studies as I have a real appreciation of the industry overall. In addition to this, I had the opportunity to develop my own personal technical skills and used a range of business software solutions such as IBM Cognos - which I have now had 12 weeks of exposure to and can proficiently go into another company and use.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I feel the atmosphere in my office was fair. Whilst there was a good emphasis on networking and plenty of social events to allow this there was a focus on workload also, but this was more of a personal management skill. Overall the atmosphere was very enjoyable.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I feel the internship was set up very well and was organised to a good level. The only improvement could be made in terms of finding out which department and team you are going into quicker and maybe getting a better overview of the projects you will be working on in advance of starting your internship. This obviously isn't always achievable but I feel this is an aspect I would have liked to have more information about in advance of beginning in order to perhaps even develop my own skills and specific knowledge areas before starting. Overall though the process was very efficient and the internship has run extremely smoothly.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company has invested an enormous ammount of training and development into me personally. The internship began with a 3 day induction week in a city hotel - providing us general training as well as more specific investment bannking overviews. In addition to this I have undertaken a range of training courses on the company intranet which have developed me significantly. In addition to this, the company actually paid for me to go to the Luxembourg offices to carry out a presentation on a piece of work I had. This particularly allowed me to develop and I feel illustrates the level of investment the company is willing to make.

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • My future employment prospects with the company are good and I would definitely love to return to the company following my intership. At the time of filling in this survey I do not yet know if I will have a job yet, but I extremely hope my hard work has paid off and I get the opportunity to return.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was excellent amongst fellow interns and colleagues. There was a number of social events held to help people mix, and there is also a monthly "pay day drinks" event which the graduate team held. These were very enjoyable and I am leaving this internship having created some amazing friendships I will have for life.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The affordability was average. As it was in the city centre of Glasgow this was not an enormous expense as in comparison to other large cities, however it was not exactly "cheap as chips" either. I feel it was moderately priced and any costs I had were not greatly over the expectation I originally had.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Glasgow has an amazing nightlife with an excellent variety.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There wee numerous opportunities to get involved outside work, including corporate social responsibility events helping volunteer at a Mary's Meals Quadrathlon amongst others.
