The Role
The work placement it's self was an amazing learning curve for my own personal development. I thoroughly enjoyed the work culture and environment I was working in, with the work at times offering an exciting end result. There is plenty of opportunity to challenge yourself and plenty of opportunity to develop skills.
You are not treated as an Intern here, you are considered a normal full time employee that can do a job effectively. You build relationships fast in an open office environment and the open desk policy allows you to walk up to the senior managers of the organisation with any questions you might have.
I was offered weekly 1-2-1s through out my placement and received constant feedback
I had a measureable amount of work 9-5.30, plenty of responsibility and workloads vary through the year as skills develop
I great amount. I was delivering reports for senior managements that then got filtered up to the CEO of Virgin Media.
I have certainly developed some skills for life here. I had great opportunities to work on my presentation skills, general networking and was able to build relationships that may be called upon in the future. I have developed my excel skills which will enable me to automate reports in the future and make other businesses more efficient.
The Company
It was a fun, yet very hard working environment that offered support whenever needed.
My first six months had to be covered by a Head of department who's time was limited. Once a manager was appointed for me, the organisation increased and I was empowered to drive my own journey.
They have invested in me more than I could have imagined, with funding training opportunities and introducing me to courses I would never have thought about in the past.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
There were opportunities to apply for grad schemes internally, which enables fast tracking depending on the course chosen.
The Culture
There was a friendly student environment with other interns with regular meet ups. I lived with other Interns and we had good social meetings early on.
Being in the south, expect higher prices. This organisation offers multiple locations so can say this will vary per Intern.
Reading is a student town, so was an ok environment on the weekends.
There are gyms and sports teams all over if you wish to get involved. I also learned how to play the saxophone during my placement.
