The Role
The support from staff all across the company, whether it was from the talent team in charge of coordinating the events of the colleagues I worked with on a day-to-day basis made the year incredibly fun, enjoyable and rewarding for me. Not to mention the great perks of working for a Virgin company.
The staff here are, on the most part amazing and supportive people. They gave me responsibility as soon as they were confident I could handle it, and they valued the work that I produced and came to rely on me.
Extensively. The knowledge and experienced shared on to me has been enormous. From 1-2-1 to 360 feedback, to rewards and recognition and coaching / learning opportunities at every opportunity I couldn't be happier with the guidance I've received.
Varied, some days I would be stacked and others would be drips and drabs, but in a nutshell there's never a shortage of work if you want it. On average, I would say that I would have enough to work to fill between 80-95% of my working week.
More than I could possibly hope for. I was given exposure to and able to present to the senior leadership team, been put in charge of fairly large projects and lead teams of people at some points throughout the year. I was trusted to book / schedule meetings with leaders, and bring about change within Virgin Media.
In terms of analysing data, producing documents to a professional standard and always raising the benchmark on your last piece of work I'll be taking a much thorough outlook to my final year of University. While here, I had to complete a University project which was of a different scale compared to the university work I was producing in my second year.
The Company
Always positive. Engrained in the culture of Virgin Media is an atmosphere of positivity. This is partly due to how the company looks after it's staff, values them and rewards their efforts. Never a dull day.
My placement was fairly unique, because the position was made for me last minute. Saying that, the elements of the placement that were universal to all students were incredibly well organised and structured, I was just in a position where I had to create my own role to some degree, which worked out perfectly.
The central talent team at Virgin Media are always on hand to support us. The workshops and meetings they set up are both costly and require a lot of work, along-side the training materials and courses available to all people working for the company. Couldn't ask for more.

Very appealing, and hard not to consider. Although a part of me wants to experience life on the other side of the fence, I do have a sense that it doesn't get much better than this so I might just find myself back here after I graduate. There are plenty of opportunities for placement students that prove themselves, and the graduate scheme is up there with the best in terms of enjoying the work your doing, balancing work / play and financial reward.
The Culture
Not so much where I was based, although the graduate and intern community are very integrated and easily contactable through the central facebook group. The central talent team also set up various events for us throughout he year and promote collaboration.
Incredible! I've been based in the Manchester area, so house prices are very reasonable and the salary is great for an internship.
Again, Manchester is the best city I have ever been to or lived in. For students studying / working in Manchester, you've got everything on your doorstep and there's so many great places to go and good things to see.
Yes of course, not many things set up by the company as I'm aware but colleagues are always running 5 a side football tournaments, charity events, poker nights, nights out etc.
