    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • The work is very 'real', no mundane or routine dull tasks and the company looks after the interns exceptionally well.

    • All the work was actively discussed by colleagues and good feedback was always given.

    • Regular meetings, both formal and casual, with line managers and more senior members of staff.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • The hours were long-ish, but good for the industry and it was never a chore to stay in the office from 8am-9pm. The latest finish I had was half past midnight, the earliest around half 7.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • All of the work is acted upon by very senior management and influences the bank's decisions to lend or not.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • Very good background in finance which will be immensely useful in my intended career although less so for university work.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Hard work, but a really good team atmosphere helped by small teams of around 10.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • It was obvious how much planning and dedication had gone into the scheme, from training provided to the many social and networking events to give us access to senior management.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • We met in small groups with very senior management (e.g. EMEA head of the division) and had external training providers for our first week.

    • Full feedback on the final morning with a job offer or other advice.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Very sociable group which got along very well with each other.

    • Expensive, but the City is going to be!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

    • Limited locally except for bars, but always a good atmosphere and plenty of colleagues there after work on Fridays.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • Lots of social events organised, both for purely interns and other colleagues as well. Final ball with all the interns from across the company.
