Operations Intern Review

I liked the fact that you were actually given the opportunity to do work rather than just hear about it. Spending a prolonged period of time here gave me the opportunity to speak to employees across various desks and divisions in a more conversational format than Q and A sessions at Insight Days provides, and also to experience what the working environment was like and the level of responsibility staff are given from the very beginning of their career at Nomura.

I was struck by the willingness of senior members of staff to take the time to talk to me, answer my questions, and to hear my own opinions about the work.

On a day to day basis, team members were always prepared to explain things I was unclear about. Aside from that, the buddy and mentor system provided plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn more about the job and myself.

There was always something for me to do, be it attend a graduate session, talk to different team members, or get down to completing tasks set for me by the team itself.

Welcoming and helpful. People were always willing to answer questions and talk about their own experiences here.

The opportunity to complete online training before coming was incredibly useful. Once here, both the graduate sessions and the work on the desk provided plenty of occasions to learn more, ask questions, and refine skills that will be useful both within an investment bank and away from a working environment e.g. networking and presentation skills.

Spending more than a day here allowed me to experience what Nomura's working environment was like from the inside, encouraging me to form my own opinions about the work and the culture here. I was able to speak to people across different divisions and, more importantly, across different desks within these divisions to work out which aspects I really wanted to pursue.
