The Role
Enjoyed it very much. Learnt more over the course of a year working for the investment bank than I had done 2 years at university. Made irreplaceable friends and contacts. Undoubtedly one of the best experiences I've ever had.
Felt very valued in respect to being asked to complete certain assignments/tasks other colleagues could not complete to similar standards, particularly translations.
Support and guidance were given to me to the best standard possible. Not once did i feel like i could not seek help or advice from my superiors. Moreover my management would reach out to me and set up weekly meetings to ensure i continued working feeling comfortable and capable.
I was definitely busier than i ever had been at school, university or previous work experience however that was expected given the nature of work. Having said that i still found the work/life balance extremely tolerable given the fact the job did not impede any of my ambitions/hobbies outside of work.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility given the nature of my position within the workforce. At first i felt pressurised by some of the responsibility but then quickly came to learn that help and guidance to handle such responsibility was always right around the corner.
The skills developed throughout my placement are undoubtedly skills for life. This is because they highly improved my time management skills, organisational skills, ways in which to deal with pressure, forms of leadership and the importance of working within a team and communicating in the optimum way to achieve optimum output/success.
The Company
Atmosphere was work orientated with a dash of fun. Constantly driven to produce best quality of work, with the pressure following respectively. However due to the nature of other colleagues, the atmosphere could be down to earth and fun at times too.
Very well organised. Meeting, reviews, one-to-ones all pre-planned and pre-meditated.
I believe the firm invested a great deal in terms of on-the-job training, character development and how to deal with in's and out's of work life.

The Culture
Personally for me the social scene was amazing, as i met up with fellow placement students often to discuss how the year was going. Having said that, the social scene is only as good as you make it. You need to be actively reaching out to fellow student to arrange 'meet-ups' in order to share thoughts, appreciations, concerns.
Compared to where I've previously lived my life the cost of living was the biggest shock for me. It took time for me to get used to paying the amount i did for rent and simply going out and socialising.
Night life was decent. Like anywhere though, it is very dependable on the company you surround yourself with and the attitude you hold throughout the night.
Endless opportunities were available.
