The Role
I feel I have been treated as slave labour. I was working 16 hour shifts without a lunch break and they refused to feed me after the first four weeks again after the first four weeks I was told I had to eat in the break room which as the name suggests you need to be having a break to use
Again there was absolutely no team work in my kitchen. The first 6 weeks of my internship I was left alone to run the dessert table at the clam bakes. The only feed back I received was always negative
I set out aims and objectives before leaving the UK to ensure I stayed on track. Not even one of them have been achieved. I had been promised to be taught to temper chocolate I reminded them countless times with reply such as next time when we're not so busy. I still can't temper chocolate
Extremely busy most days and if I wasn't busy I was bored. It went from one extreme to the other very quickly
I ran the dessert table at the clam bakes. This was unsupervised I would have liked to have more responsibility buy again got the brush off.
It has taught me how much crap I'm willing to take, how much I can actually take and how much I'm worth. Never again will I let someone take advantage of my giving and dedicated nature.
The Company
It was stone silence if my head chef was in. I don't struggle to make friends or talk to people but I was there for four months and I can honestly say hand on heart I did not make even one friend.
The aims and objectives that were set out before leaving both the university and the company I worked for neglected to mention a lot of important issues. The human resources department at Chatham bars Inn are completely useless. Full of air
I was there to fill a slot be an extra body
I would rather remove my own arm than go and work there again. Absolutely disgraceful how they treat their staff. No wonder so many people leave and never return.
The Culture
A small group of people often went down to the local pub for the karaoke night and the company did throw a staff party although I did have to work it so I didn't get to enjoy it.
Living in America is very expensive. Clothing and is cheaper. My main problem was fruit and vegetables were very expensive it was cheaper to ear out on things like pizza but I like my healthy food so this was a major issue for me
Non existent. I lived in a very small town so this was to be expected
Never had any time off to enjoy things. Got to a point where I was working six days a week could only cook food for the week do my washing and sleep on my only day off. Also I never had the same day off so clubs I could have joined didn't work out as I could only go to one of of the eight sessions
