    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Extremely lively crowd which made the internship very enjoyable. There were loads of events which were a lot of fun - the best HR team you will find - they are very efficient as opposed to HR teams in many other companies.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They were very excited to have us there and were keen to expose us to interesting work. However, they don't always want to spend all their time teaching you how to go about a task - they expect you to use the internal Wiki or ask other people if they are slightly busy, They are also not too quick in gauging an intern's/grad's enthusiasm - you will REALLY have to go out of your way to do this. Being involved in many projects and asking intelligent questions will not suffice. You will need to show them that the business division is EXACTLY what you were looking for.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • A lot of training sessions are held during the internship which were excellent. However they expect some amount of independence and don't appreciate too many questions. But this also varies from person to person. The junior analysts are extremely helpful and won't mind spending a couple of hours per day to just teach you.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Just the right amount - but this depends per division. There are 3 divisions in PAG: Clients - good work hours Investments - slightly longer Markets - very long Unfortunately grads and interns dont choose their divisions. You can only choose whether or not to be in PAG.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot - it's a great place to get involved in anything of your interest. You just have to ask for something that you want to learn about. You get to work on projects which are directly going to influence the company. There is a lot of exposure to the actual portfolio manager if you are in the Clients or Investment teams.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I felt like my university skills helped me during the internship rather than the other way round. To be fair the work is not very technical in terms of finance. It has moderate amounts of finance. However, I learn valuable programming skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone is always so lively and fun loving. The PAG team is soo young! Probably will not find a huge financial services firm that has a better culture than BlackRock.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • This HR team really surprised us - they were very efficient and planned some great events. The good part is that training is organised per division so you learn exactly what is required.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The good part is that training is organised per division so you learn exactly what is required. They invested a lot of time in this in terms of classes and encourage interns to learn as much as possible when on the job. They really want you to learn a lot but are not always willing to take out much of their own time for guiding you through tasks.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Really depends on how much they like you. You can't just be amazing at your job - you need to show them that the job was the most exciting thing you have ever done. Sometimes you can get away with average work and a lot of enthusiasm and still secure an offer.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The best social scene. They hire interns and grads who are just like them - fun loving and relaxed. The interns went out almost every day during my time there and we had great fun. You will make some great friends.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very expensive!! But it's worth it :)

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Amazing and expensive - but so much fun. The next best thing about the internship

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • They conducted a charity event that all the interns took part in - it was a lot of fun.

    4/5
