    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Looking back on it all now, I would go as far as saying that my placement year with Goldman Sachs was probably one of the best years of my life. I got to meet some really amazing people, live in a super diverse and friendly workforce and partake in many of the countless valuable opportunities that were made available to me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Coming from university and with the premise of a stereotypical internship in mind, I wasn't really sure just how much of an impact I could make to feel valued at the firm. It was shortly after I had started that I had realised the responsibilities I had been given were of real concern and had positive business impact. My progress was highly appreciated and of course valued well too.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have given this one a ten. My manager and supervisors were crucial to the success of my placement. If there was anything of concern to me, I never felt uncomfortable approaching seniority. This open and transparent approach to management was both beneficial and supportive to me; it was very welcome.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were always activities to occupy my focus. It is a lot of work but the important thing to remember is that you are given a lot of freedom, guidance and help in how you approach it. There are of course busier periods but again the resources for help are everywhere so I never really felt as though I was too busy to not complete something.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In terms of work, I felt super appreciated with the trust and responsibility that was given to me. I had worked on projects with real positive business impact that would be in use even after leaving. It makes you value your work and hence more dedicated to it. You really become a member of the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training that I have received, the projects that I have worked on and the opportunities that I have taken have all helped in expanding my skill set not only at a technical level but at communicational and presentational ones too among others.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I would say the office atmosphere was quite relaxed. The people in my team became almost extended family members all with their own strengths, experiences and advices for me to learn and draw inspiration from. So overall I would say the atmosphere was friendly, open and welcoming but also very focussed and dedicated.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The department that was responsible for our management honestly did a really good job. They set up countless events with seniority for us to learn, they organised several networking socials and they also made us aware of otherwise important events for us to attend. They gave us guidance throughout the placement and were also very easy to approach if it was ever needed.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Goldman Sachs puts in a lot of resources to maintain a motivated and well trained work force and during my work placement this became very apparent to me. There were endless opportunities not only for technical training but for important soft skills too such as; leadership, different communicational styles, presentational ability and time management among others.

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Like my rating says, I got a job with them! I know a lot of my work placement and intern friends also received graduate offers to return. I think that employment prospects from work placements and internships are quite favourable providing you show how willing and dedicated you can be in your approach to work.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I have made some life long friends from the work placements, interns and colleagues that I have spent time with. There are plenty of social events and networking opportunities that were set up for us to meet and talk to each other so it is natural to make many close friends.
