    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a lot more fun than I imagined! I thought it would require very stressful work hours, but that was not the case. I met a lot of new people who were smart, funny, and responsible. I learned a lot of new tools related to my studies and project management. It was a great summer.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt as if I really was a part of the team. I worked in a pod with 2 other interns and we were put inside another team. So both my intern colleagues and the larger team colleagues treated me well. My manager and every other colleague around us were very patient and helpful to the hundreds of questions we had everyday.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Our manager was very clear on the task and the steps required to achieve the final outcome. This helped us achieve a lot in very small amount of time. She was always up for answering our questions and coming to our desks to help us individually. She encouraged us to meet other people from other teams and departments.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most of the time I was very busy. I believe it was because of being a summer internship and there is always a lot to learn and do in only 10 weeks. In the first few weeks it was surprising that I was that busy but later on I learned how to manage my time. I learned to prioritize the different tasks in hand and say no to some meetings or move them to later times. But I also know that the fact that it was a very busy summer made it a lot more fun!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The task I was given was very useful to the team. So whatever I achieved with the project made things easier for them with anything related to my project topic. Alongside the project itself I learned new tools and I was already able to help others with my knowledge in such a short time! Seeing this I felt encouraged to do activities outside of my daily routine work, so I was eager to take responsibility in other areas too.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was able to learn new tools, systems and languages. I was also able to see my weaknesses and my interests even more. The new tools I was exposed to and the way systems were designed made me think better for my final year project. In fact I was so inspired by these tools and systems that I decided to build an enterprise-like student project and marks system to expose them to the project management tools and techniques I have come across.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a very warm work environment. Everyone knew each other. I did not feel that it was an extremely stressful work environment that one would feel the need to work 100% of their times. I saw that people work and get things done very quickly and smartly but they also take the time to enjoy a coffee break with each other. This is very motivating.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organized. There was very little I had to email about because we were given a lot of information and guidance in orientation days in the beginning and via emails during the rest of the internship. I was never confused as to what meetings I had and where. They were all set a few weeks earlier the event dates. I was given information on anything I could possibly ask without having the need to ask. I was very clear on how my 10 weeks would go.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested in me a lot. They valued me for being who I am. I could see this in everyone’s eyes. I was treated as if I was already a part of the company. In terms of learning experience, I was allowed to access and learn almost anything I wanted. In terms of time, everyone gave me their times to explain about their roles and responsibilities and to hear about mine and guide me. In terms of financial investments, the pay was very well and there were a lot of events outside of work hours for the interns.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They company was very quick to respond to us about the results of our internships. I was very clear on my decision even before I applied for the internship and it became even a stronger decision as the internship went on. The internship proved to show me what I expected from the internship and the company and I also that there is a lot more to these aspects.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was in the center of London and of course it was not as cheap as it was in my university city. However, the pay was good and I was able to afford a good single stay student accommodation and very good (quality) food along with shopping and other activities.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I went out a few times during the internship with some groups of interns. The nightlife was good, but for clubs we mostly went to places a little outside of the work area. For casual after work drinks there were many places to go to around the office and as interns we made a few of these our “intern places”.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company provides a variety of netwoks anyone can sign up to. Even if one feels they dont belong to a network they can still join to show their support for that network and their ideas. There were community work opportunities (basically volunteering opportunities). The departments also put together BBQs and other events.
